Boating index?
I was wondering if there would be any interest in creating a new forum topic that would be focused on real-time boating conditions on the lake, as reported by those on the water. For instance, my wife and I try to plan our boating trips on the big lake around the forecasted weather conditions only to be dissapointed with higher than expected wind, cloudy skies/showers, rough conditions etc.... If we all contributed to a dedicated forum where those who are able to can report the current conditions in an agreed upon scale/index it would be an interesting and valuable resource. Thoughts? Silly idea?

Great idea! More often than not the conditions from where we live to on the lake vary greatly, and usually not in a good way. This is something I would use and contribute to.

Great Idea
This idea makes perfect sense. It could be like the app WAZE but for the lake. It could report on weather conditions around the lake, any congested areas (Weirs Channel, Town Docks etc) and maybe where the MP are hanging around.

I have the various Web cams on my phone and tablet. I look at the weather apps to check the wind, check the cams to see what the water looks like, and plan accordingly. Your premise is good, but I fear it could get really cluttered quickly and difficult to find the info you want.

I think it's at least worth a trial. I'd be willing to contribute (at least on a weekend basis) but then that would probably be the best reporting time for a lot of boaters.

I love the idea.

My boating index is typically checking the Rattlesnakecam online to see what it looks like in the broads before we head up.

On 06-15 we took the Jet Ski from Green's Basin to the Weirs. We left around 1pm and the broads were like glass. We had never seen it so smooth. We left the Weirs around 4pm to head back. What a difference a few hours make! The swells were so high. It was a tough ride back. We were soaked! It just goes to show you that the weather can change in an instant!

Taken by Surprise
I had just cleaned our already primed front steps and was going to paint them since it was a calm and dry day. A strong southeast wind came up suddenly covering the steps with pine needles, etc. If I had just finished painting, I would have had a real mess to clean. 😱
