Thunder + Lightning = Adventure

It wasn't a great sailing day, but too few boats out to pass up the chance to catch a breeze in the Broads. (Where are the other boats  ?).

About 4:00PM today, I double-secured my sailboat to the dock. The boating had ended for the day, judging by the appearance of the weather to the Northwest. We had already seen one light rain briefly, shortly before, and the clouds and radio static promised much worse to come.

Sure enough, the wind picked up from the Northwest, and bands of white caps formed, and the "caps" blew off the tops of the waves. Rain and lightning followed, as I watched my from the living room. Jet-skis had been racing who-knows-where just minutes earlier.

What should arrive at my dock but a 32-foot Donzi?

The "driver" popped up the fore hatch, tossed out his anchor like it was a laundry bag (the works -- in a big clump) , and proceeded to snap all the top fittings in the nasty thunder, lightning, and now-driven cold rain.

He stopped being "my problem" (water intake pipe), and dragged his anchor "clump" first to my neighbor's...then their neighbors...then the next...when the storm suddenly stopped (at the last snap-fitting!)

Just as well. If the storm had gotten worse, there would have been no holding it off the unfamiliar rocky ledge he was being driven to, even standing in the water.

Lesson? Probably none. :rolleye2:

Holy Cow!

Anybody experience a storm about 5:20PM on Friday afternoon?

There was a roar in the forest like I've never heard before. (And no extreme weather warning on www.weatherperhour.com at 5PM, either -- I checked.)

My neighbors said they'd never seen anything like it (Me neither).
