Best Weather App

I've seen mentions of weather apps here and there when I didn't need one, but now I do and would like to check some out now. Go!

Aviation WX is a great app. Put out by NOAA. Even if you're not a pilot, there is a ton of great, easy to access info. Good luck.

I use both "The Weather Channel" & "Wunderground" apps.
The weather channel radar has both replay & forecast radar.
Pretty good hourly forecasts within a day ahead.
Both pretty easy on the boat.
I plan fishing with the Wunderground website that has a more detailed graph overlay of temp, pressure, rain %, wind & direction, cloud cover, on hourly basis accross 10 days. Its really only accurate about a day or less ahead but thats all I need anyway.

Necn has a great app. I met a couple of the developers. The company is based out of Andover Ma and they supply the maps to all the TV channels on tv in the Boston area. The map is great and their are one of the more accurate forecast.
Stay way from weather channel and weather bug. Both highly inaccurate.
Weather underground and AccuWeather are also good. I use them a lot.

I mostly use "My Radar", it helps to keep an eye on the sky and watch for storms.

It's much better than other radar apps or weather apps in that it does one thing well!

It's not for forecasts, but is a good real time weather radar.

I used to use "radar now" but "My radar" seems much better. Both are free! Check it out.

Does My Radar show future or just present radar?

I have more than a few and I only use them for radar loops but the one I seem to use most for that is WMUR. Real quick zoom and drag and its free.

I use the NECN app all the time. It is pretty detailed radar map in my opinion.

Yup, really like theirs also.

For radar only, RadarScope is a great app, but it isn't free.
My Radar is a decent free radar app.

I have a PWS on wunderground, so I also use that app to view my station and temps at other stations in my area.

For forecasts, not many apps are very reliable, especially long-term forecasts. They only use computer programs for the forecast, so the forecast changes every 6 hours when new weather model data comes in.

I like Weatherbug, with its radar and Spark (lightening strike reporting), but I also have Weatherunderground, NWS (radar and forecaster's discussion), and Intellicast. Each has their own nice features.

have a look at windfinder. I've found it very good for wind around boston / cape.

jazzman 08-04-2017 01:56 PM

I like this for fairly accurate hour by hour wind forecasts.

Looks like we get a "rain out" on Saturday and a "wind out" on Sunday.

Technically, there is no such thing as future radar.

Some outlets show graphical model output that looks like radar, but it only shows what the model is predicting. For boating, it is far better to have live radar, look at how the storms are progressing and stay an hour ahead of the weather.

Weatherbug.

I have been using it for years, you can watch the weather in multiple locations, accurate 10 day forecast, SPARK, which shows lightning strikes, in real time, hundreds of miles a way, you can literally watch the line of strikes heading toward you, Radar. Weatherbug:)

Huge like button. You can put current radar in motion to see its track, and then give yourself plenty of time to get back to your home base.

Weather.com

Weather.com offers live and future radar which I find extremely helpful. As a matter of fact used it a few times yesterday to avoid navigating through storm cells when coming to and from shore...

At member Rich's earlier suggestion, I plugged My Radar into my Smartphone. It was already awesome during yesterday's thunderstorms, so I added "wind-direction", AND you should see it today!

Missed that post:rolleye2:

I'm going to check out the wind direction

Thanks

I'm glad you found d it useful. It can give weather, alerts, wind, and more. It's very useful. Radar is its strong point, and often you can see if a storm cell may hit one end of the lake, or miss you entirely.

This weekend I was about to do some grilling, I checked and saw a long line of storms was on its way, I decided to wait 50 minutes, and was able to cook without getting wet as the storm cell had cleared us by then. Others were caught in the rain while standing at their grills.

It's a good tool.
