how many cabins on Bear Island?

Does anyone have an estimate of the number of cabins ("camps" but not Camp Lawrence) on Bear Island?

thanks

Estimate

The Meredith Assessing Department has a full list of properties on the web. I used this list (link below) and found roughly 225 lots listed on Bear. Take off a good dozen for conservation and YMCA camp properties, maybe another 20 that are assessed at $0 for buildings, and that gives you a reasonable estimate. If you have the time, you can sort the list to further refine that count.

We fished off the mail dock one day last month super early in the morning and I counted 80 mailboxes. I have no idea if every house has a mail box or not.

I've always said 175 houses, but that is an estimate - and there has been new construction in recent years.

Can count me as one who doesn't have a mailbox there.

Mailboxes

Found this online image of the 'north end' mailboxes; I'd say 80 is a good estimated count for these metal mail repositories. And the NatGeo article that blog links to has the island's cottage count at 184:

Some of us get island mail at the East Bear mail dock. And some have island mailboxes (with Bear Island addresses) on the mainland, such as at Cattle Landing.
