Best Lobster Roll EVER!
I eat at least a dozen lobster rolls a year in Maine and Massachusetts--they're one of my favorite dishes and I'm always keen to try a new version. But now I'm absolutely hooked on the one from the Castle in the Clouds Carriage House. Super succulent morsels on a sheet of lettuce in a grilled roll. No mayo, but butter on the side (which I skip). Absolutely wonderful. Too often the lobster is overcooked or overshadowed by other ingredients, this rendition lets the taste shine through.
Quite pricey (so skip it if you're a value-oriented diner). But more importantly, the Carriage House serves lunch on a lovely patio with a sweeping view of the lake and a full bar. If you aren't visiting the Castle itself, there's a separate entrance to avoid the visitor fee. Bon appetit! |
Red's Eats
I think the best lobster roll in New England is at Red's Eats in Wiscasset Maine. But be ready to wait at least one hour in a line on the side of the road before you get to place your order at the counter.

Another vote for Reds.

While I'll agree with Reds also I'll never wait more than 10 minutes and never have there.

Best one?
We haven't had a 'best lobster roll' brawl in a while :rolleye2:

Best ever is whatever the last one I had.
The more simple something is the easier it is to screw up. If the roll is fresh, the lobster cooked properly and not watery and the right amount of mayo there is no bad one. Personally I like the taste of a little celery and lettuce but of course most places don't do that lest they be accused of stuffing to be cheap. Celery seed is one option. The roll at The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport wins all kinds of awards and it is really, really good but non traditional so I struggle with it. Round bun, butter, optional mayo and big chunks. |
Lobster roll
The best one hands down is the beach plum.

Anyone
Done the Tamarack in the last couple years?
Sawyers is still good but is getting stupid-pricey. And it's a haul to go all the way back to the place by the winnesquam bridge. Those were always our places, I wish Jons deli would get into it.... |
Of course the best was waldo pepper

I've always found the Lobster Connection in Tilton to be consistently fresh and well made.

Having spent considerable years in New Bedford and Cape Cod, I prefer to obtain all my seafood directly off the boat. Make sure it is the first off and not the last. If you know the captain then there is no problem. Yes it is a long drive so enjoy the time in the car, top down possibly and do not forget the cooler.

That being said, my favorite though is a little shack at Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, ME called Foot Bridge Lobster. They have an outstanding lobster roll. Delicious! https://i.imgur.com/iyi6qWR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yNQvsdh.jpg |

I would argue that the Lobster Shack next door has a better lobster roll. The fish chowder is also some of the best I’ve ever had.Attachment 13990

Just as importantly, I can tell you where not to get one.

Wow! Maybe Tamarack is back?

In Kennebunkport is my goto for all fresh seafoods. Bar none.
The worst place to go to is Sawyer's in Gilford. |

By accident I had two lobster rolls this week. One at pinecone in Melvin Village and another at George’s seafood in Plymouth. Pine cone was just ok. Way too much bread and the lobster needed salt. Was generous amount of lobster but did not look like it since the roll was so big.
George’s was really good. Everything you want. Well toasted roll. Not much mayo and lobster was not wet. Actually went there for the fried seafood platter which is always great. Traded my friend a couple scallops and clams for half a lobster roll. Picture is pinecone.Attachment 14126 |

Best Lobster Roll @ Beefside in Concord
1 Attachment(s)
First time at Beefside today and I took a chance on their lobster salad roll - it was excellent. Lots of fresh lobster tossed with light mayo, celery & lettuce on a grilled hot dog roll with fries and pickles for $12.52 including tax! The fries were delicious too, dry and crispy.
Beefside is located on Manchester Street in Concord. As their name states, they are known for their roast beef sandwiches, seafood and hickory smoked BBQ. Their RB sandwiches range from $4.39 to $8.59. I know this isn't the Lakes Region, but if you happen to be in Concord, it's worth the visit. Hope the pic comes out OK, the preview showed it turned on its side. |

This is what my wife calls this when I order eggs benedict topped with lobster, crab and hollandiase sauce. Love this.
