Ode To A Gilford Restaurant

My son wanted a place
With a table for eight
Looking out at the Lake
Where we could eat late
And the day after turkey
Well, perhaps, a small plate
He’d happily pay for whatever we ate.

The menu and setting blew our resolve
Should we order it all?
Was the puzzle to solve
We did.

Freshly baked rolls settled our qualms
Then the Caprese Salad was as good as The Palm
And why go to Surf?
That drive is a hurdle
My fried oysters were better
Where is that girdle?

The Crab Cakes put 82 Queen to the test
And we easily rated
The Lyon’s Den “Best”.

Hannah, our waitress, was equally super
So we left Lyon’s Den in a full family stupor
Forever spoiled.

Poetic Justice

Our family and friends all agree

The Lyon's Den is the best. Yippee!

As in the past I cannot say enough good things about the Lyon's Den. Now that you mention this, I really would like some of their epicurean food delights. Wish some could be sent over night to California. My mouth is watering just thinking of the haddock, lamb, shrimp along with the balance of the menu.

My only complaint is with regard to reservations and it is not even a complaint. Just something unusual. We arrived - without a reservation - and was told we would have to eat fast as there was a reservation in 90 minutes. Now, the place was empty. Totally empty. It was early afternoon. After lunch. Way before dinner. I have heard this about them before. It was no problem as we would never take 90 minutes to eat, but it seemed a little weird.

We were there a few weeks ago with a noon reservation. When I called to make the reservation I was informed that at 1:30 they had to start setting up for a special function. The Den is often reserved for a function. In this case it was for a memorial service for a recently departed island resident.

I remember it from back in the 50's, when my parents brought us kids there for a treat. My foggy memory tells me it was Dorothy's back then. AAAhhh, the good old days :)

Yes it was

Yes it was Dorothy's. We had a trailer in the park across the street. We'd go across the street for an ice cream and sometimes ate a meal. She also ran the little grocery shop underneath. Popsicles for a nickle, or was it a dime.

We may have passed one another back in the day. We had the trailer from the mid to late 50's to around 1970.:)

Lyons Den & Dorothy's

As a teen, I worked at Dorothy's. She told me that originally, it was Peterson's General Store. I don't know if she was the one that turned it into a restaurant. I appreciate that Lyons Den does a good job of table turnover. You can't be a successful restaurant without it and that makes it better for all of us. Doing functions and catering are also great services for us all.
