Water, water everywhere ...
 

... and nary a drop to drink!

Our regions police officers, state troopers and firefighters, as well as the Electric company service crews have been kept busy throughout the night and into this morning with every manner of water-related emergencies. The scanner has been absolutely non-stop for about 14 hours with reports of basements flooded, roads washed out, trees down on wires, trees across roads, and even a landslide on Rt. 11 in Gilford!

The towns of Alton and Sanbornton have been particularly hard-hit it would appear. Each has experienced a goodly number of roads flooded and or washed out completely. Residents in several places have been evacuated, while others are unable to evacuate due to impassible roadways. Electricity is or has been out in numerous locations around the region.

If you have neighbors who are elderly or infirm, please make a point to check on them this morning. Check your own basements for flooding, and your properties for precarious trees. The wind is kicking up again, and more damage is expected as a result of saturated earth. While traveling today, be particularly careful of puddles - they may be deeper than they look, or could be disquising a washed-out section of road!

Things are indeed getting worse, even though the rain has apparently stopped, at least for a little while. Flooding is everywhere, and emergency crews are stretched to the limits dealing with so many different problems.

Next time you see a police officer or a firefighter, be sure to say Thanks! for their tireless work throughout this storm and it's messy results! I cannot even begin to describe to you how unbelievably busy these people have been, and how exhausted they surely must be by now, and with many hours of work still to come!

On our way to and from church this morning, we saw numerous roads that sustained minimal to serious damage due to the heavy rain over the last 36 hours.

Many municipal and state employees took time out of their Sunday to help repair our roads and keep us safe. Late this afternoon a town employee stopped to help us clear debris from the drainage ditch in front of our house...very nice gentleman!

One of our neighbors with an electronic weather station that measures rainfall recorded 8.39" of rain between Friday afternoon and this afternoon here in West Alton.

Flash flooding in West Alton
 

Well, all I can say is that I could not believe the amount of debris and MUD that came down in the flash flood. West Alton Marina and the roads around it were knee deep. Two barges came lose in the channel and the sand bar was full of debris and logs.

Absolutely amazing..... glad that no one was hurt!!!

I have never seen the brook as high as it was this morning, and we have had this place since 1976. I can believe DRH's neighbor with the rain amount.

I left my house in Alton and went down to West Alton Marina to get the "stuff" out of the boat, put some gas in, and say goodbye to the "Upthesaukee" for the winter. The area on Route 11 that recently had construction for the "rock scaling" had a lot of erosion at the base of the rocks, there were washouts on either side of route 11 just west of the new Minge Cove road intersection, and between that intersection and 11D on the south side of the highway just west of the last rock face was the remnants of a mudslide.

West Alton had water that ran right through the marina and into the lake, and I heard a couple of barges that moor in the channel going into the marina had broken loose and had to be anchored out by the sandbar. Also heard reports of a lot of debris in the lake, so those of you going out, be extra careful.

Hope that everyone made it through safely, and our thoughts and prayers to those less fortunate, especially in the western part of the state.

The NH National Guard has been activated to respond to this.

I've been checking out the photos on the WMUR TV website. So many people have sent in photos that are showing so much destruction and water everywhere in the SWestern part of the state. Such fast moving water.

Moultonboro rain amounts
 

We're on Moultonboro Neck, and measured 4.87" of rain on our weather station between Saturday and Sunday. It's amazing how much the rainfall varied from one local spot to another!

Just saw on the news that NH International Speedway is completely flooded, including the infield, spectator & garage areas. NECN showed pictures that someone had emailed to them.
