Crownline 206LS
 

Curious if anyone can comment on a Crownline 206LS with a 4.3 mpi engine, some seem to think it is underpowered with the v-6.

I used to own a 20' bowrider, sounds like it may be similar size. It was powered with a 5.7 liter V8. I guess it all depends on what you want out of the boat, how you will use it, how much weight & how many people you intend to take with you. It could all make a difference.

Having said that, my personal opinion, I would not want anything less than a 5.0 liter V8. You may not be happy when there are people sitting in the back & it takes too long to plane.

I had a 202BR with the 5.0 and thought it was just enough power for skiing, etc. I would not want any less but I would take it out for a ride and see. The other thing to think about is resale. If you like the way it handles and are going to keep it for a while, beat them up on the price, most people are going to want the V8 so the demand should be a soft.

If top speed is important to you, opt for the V8, you won't regret it. The 4.3 is a great engine for a <20' sport boat but if you buy a boat that seats 8 or more, the 4.3 engine will disappoint unless you under prop it which will limit the top speed quite a bit.

...is 220 hp. Depending on which v8 you get, that may be the same, or almost the same, HP, for instance the 2bbl 5.0L engine is also 220 HP. Thr 5.7L is 250 HP. The V6 will be lighter and may well give better fuel economy than the V8. I have a 19.5' bowrider with 4.3L 2 bbl, and I love it. Plenty of power (will do 50 mph) and decent fuel consumption

A friend bought a new 209 Rinker b/r with a 4.3. Had the boat one year and traded for a 209 with 5.7 liter. He wanted it for skiing and the 4.3 just didn't do it :( . Deep water starts on a slalom was too hard for him. The 260 hp 5.7 liter would snap him right out of the water. Plus the larger engine won't have to work as hard and can be propped higher and run slower at the same speed :cool: .

Highlander -- we also has a 202BR w/ 5.7L 250HP -- the boat was awesome. For extra "hole shot" the last few years we put on a Stainless prop which helped tremendously. Again, not knowing what your intents are for the boat -- or wether your looking at new or used -- I'd personally shy away from the V6. Crowns are relatively "heavy" (well made) boats. I think you'll be disappointed with a V6

By the way - we moved into a 226LS this season -- larger (obviously) but a much better all round boat/size for Winni & our needs.

Both of the 220 HP engines will give the same top speed (less than 100 lbs weigh difference between the two), and have the same operating RPM (and therefore the same prop) but the 5.0 V8 will accelerate better due to a fatter torque curve. Simple matter of displacement.
