Gas Tax Rebate

Got my $81.92 yesterday as well

I got my check but also received a letter a few weeks prior to that.

The state said that my application was not in accordance with the rules but would be processed anyway.

The problem was that I did not have my name on each receipt.

What do I do if the vendor does not have me on file and thus my name does not appear on the receipt?

Can I just write my name on the receipt?

I was going to call them but anticipated a busy signal so I defer to the experts here. :D

A couple of seasons ago, I had a couple of receipts declined for a similar reason. My name wasn’t on the original receipt so I had written my name on it, though it was clearly in different ink and handwriting.
Speaking with the auditor reviewing my receipts, he advised that the gas receipts need to be completed in full by the supplier or they’ll be flagged. Now I check each receipt after fueling to ensure that my name, date, hull id, fuel total and cost are all completed prior to leaving the fuel dock.

The law is written this way (id the purchase) for a couple of reasons.
1. They don't want to be giving refunds to the person who fills his boat and his truck at the same gas station and tries to say it is all "off road" use.
2. Industrial companies, for example, may be filing for refunds quarterly, when they are using thousands of gallons. There is a lot more concern there about "inaccurate" reporting. When an audit is done "inaccurate" may turn into perjury. Yes, the state does do audits.

Great information, but...

What do you do if all of the info is NOT on the printed receipt (after you've checked)?

I can't remember exactly, but I don't believe my name has ever been on boat gas receipts—my bow numbers are, though.

I hate to say I don't bother to do these anymore but I always used to and I remember that if you didn't have every little piece of info on the slip they declined it. I just filled the missing items in myself.

Luckily, Winni Marine where We valeted from and where we bought all our fuel, gave an 8.5 x 11” printout with each purchase with all the info printed out to please the state. Just had to add it up and apply the % rate and send the receipts in with the form.

I received my rebate yesterday too! Used it to buy steak tips and teriyaki chicken at Village Bakery! Getting together with my brothers and some friends at their island property. We should have some good grilling.

I usually ask the attendant for a complete receipt once they’ve started fueling in an effort to head off that possibility. Depending on how busy the fuel dock is, if there’s anything missing at the end, I’ll ask them to fill it in before heading out. Most every season though, I unfortunately end up with either an incomplete one, or one I’ve misplaced.

Almost afraid to ask...

I don't either anymore...... and you are right they would deny it for just about any error they could find.

In the old days of the water ski races Jays marina one year told us we had purchased about 25% of there total sales that year. When you are sking and using the boat 80 to 120 miles per day, It really made sense to do it back then. 40 miles per practice run and all 4 of us skied every day.

Which is exactly what they want-people like us to not bother.

We've never had anything other than bow numbers hand-written on receipts, and never had any rejected. We got our check a day or two ago as well.

Always did it..

I always did it. My wife had an envelope to hold the receipts. We bought virtually all our gas at West Alton, and they always gave us a receipt with our name and bow number on it. When we pulled the boat at the end of the year, I topped off at the Alton Circle gas station.

Never had a problem with the credit card receipt from there, with my name from the card and boat bow number written on it. Loved the springtime mad money to buy steak or a bottle of booze, or.....

Alas, in 2019, not enough gas purchased to reach the $10 minimum. :( Boat sold this past December. No more high mathematics. :rolleye2:

You should check out the Village Bakery. More than just goodies. Prices on meat are a lot lower than Wining Butcher, but that's not too difficult.
