Public beaches (States landing & Melvin Wharf)
We are not new to the lake (over 30 years here) but only now have ventured out to exploring the beaches. First question, where is the Melvin Wharf beach from the lake side? We were exploring and cannot determine which sandy spot is it if you were facing land with the gas dock on your left.
Also, I saw a lot of boats and jet skis anchoring right on land at States Landing. Is that an new thing and or is just people using it freely since no life guards there? We were thinking that the boat launch was also in use next to it , it seems bit crazy to swim so close by and if an boat swings to hit those beached right in the sand. We didn’t even know that was a possibility at all here. |
The beach and swim area at Melvin Wharf is immediately to the west of the wharf.

Moultonborough taxpayers just spent $400,000+/- to refurbish the beach area, dredging, etc. it was quite a project. Anyhow, I would be very surprised if boats and jet skis are permitted to pull up on the beach. No dogs are allowed, but that’s been largely ignored. For accurate information, call town offices at 476-2347.

Maybe some confusion...?
There is no gas dock at Melvin Wharf. There is a tiny, public beach just to the left of the wharf- looking from your boat to the land.
I would venture to say, that if you are talking about the gas dock a Pier 19, and were "facing the land", from your boat, and the wharf was on your left, the beach would be to your right-south of the wharf. |
