wake board
Yesterday I was out boating and was passed by a wake board bringing powered by a hand held parasail. I was going 25 mi. (in a 25 mi. speed zone). I would guess the board max. speed was 35-40.
Has anyone seen or used one of these on Winnie? It looks interesting. |

Constant Wind
It seemed to me that they need a constant wind. I'm sure there are days that they could be used in the boards. Wish I was young enough to try it. :( It is a way to beat the speed limit in Florida. After I docked there was a Marine Patrol officer dockside and I asked him about them. He said that they are under no controls and the only accident they have had with them was when someone tried an airborne trick and went head first into 1 foot of water. I did notice that they were in shallow water which is off limits to boats. If you go there in a boat we call it oyster fishing.

Speaking of wake boarding (surfing), have you seen this before?

wow teak surfing was crazy enough
this is nuts. Anytime you're that close to a spinning prop and your face is in a motor exhaust, you're taking big risks.

Not too bright
Looks like fun until the prop bites you.

That is just wrong on so many levels. They look like potential "Darwin Award" candidates...
On the bright side, the wakeboarder is wearing a PFD! Woodsy |

Kiteboarding
Here is a site about what I am talking about. I have seen them out at several locations here in Florida.
http://www.kitehigh.com/index.cfm?section=home I also noticed that in the Photo forum by dcr that a simular sport is happening on 19 mile bay. New fun:rolleye1: |

I stumbled onto a 17-minute video (safe for the office) early on, shows two- and one- bare foot skiing! It's kinda long, but I had to watch it twice. :look: Somewhere in the middle, there's some water-ski history from the 60s and the 70s from where the kiting sport directly evolved. The sport passed right by me! :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyeWJYT_AYI . |
kitesurfing is a blast. Need consistent wind.
