wake board
 

Yesterday I was out boating and was passed by a wake board bringing powered by a hand held parasail. I was going 25 mi. (in a 25 mi. speed zone). I would guess the board max. speed was 35-40.
Has anyone seen or used one of these on Winnie? It looks interesting.

I saw a couple of people doing just that perhaps 2 or so years ago out by Welch I. Haven't seen it since on the lake. Probably the winds aren't steady enough, too much time spent in the water ???? It's a big sport down in Hawaii.

Constant Wind
 

It seemed to me that they need a constant wind. I'm sure there are days that they could be used in the boards. Wish I was young enough to try it. :( It is a way to beat the speed limit in Florida. After I docked there was a Marine Patrol officer dockside and I asked him about them. He said that they are under no controls and the only accident they have had with them was when someone tried an airborne trick and went head first into 1 foot of water. I did notice that they were in shallow water which is off limits to boats. If you go there in a boat we call it oyster fishing.:eek:

Speaking of wake boarding (surfing), have you seen this before?

this is nuts. Anytime you're that close to a spinning prop and your face is in a motor exhaust, you're taking big risks.

Looks like fun until the prop bites you.

That is just wrong on so many levels. They look like potential "Darwin Award" candidates...

On the bright side, the wakeboarder is wearing a PFD!

Kitesurfing has come a long way. The sport needs "strong, clean air", so most kiteboarding is done off ocean beaches—with an onshore wind. I have seen it done on a lake. There's a fuzzy picture of it somewhere in this computer. :o

I stumbled onto a 17-minute video (safe for the office) early on, shows two- and one- bare foot skiing! :eek: It's kinda long, but I had to watch it twice.

Somewhere in the middle, there's some water-ski history from the 60s and the 70s from where the kiting sport directly evolved.

The sport passed right by me! :(
