Does anybody use a wifi system for an underground propane tank?
Also, who does everybody use for delivery?
Thank you. |
Wifi for underground propane tank
In some cases, delivery is related to service, and also related to how much expected usage in involved. Are you talking propane for whole-house use, or for a stand-by generator? Several months ago, Rymes (my provider) came and installed a Wifi gizmo on my 2-tank stand-by propane system (only used for generator) so they could monitor it for delivery purposes since usage is difficult to predict for a stand-by generator. My two tanks are not underground.

Underground, but no wifi
We use Rymes for both Bedford and Meredith. Bedford is a 1000 gallon underground tank that we own. Meredith is 500 gallon underground tank that is owned by Rymes. We do not have any wifi for either tank; we are on regular delivery, just like with the traditional oil man. For Bedford, they deliver once per month and Meredith every couple of months. We've never had an issue of running out and it's easy to check the gauge for the underground tanks just to be sure they are not getting too low.

We have a cellular monitor

I have a friend who owns a propane company in upstate NY. They use a cellular monitor to determine when to send a truck out to fill tanks. I contacted my provider and received permission to install it on my tank and it has been great.
First, I don't have to dig through the snow to see the status of the tank. Second, I can access it anywhere on a mobile app. I told my provider that I would pay extra for the service. |

They're great when they work...

Irving installed a cell monitor on our above ground tank last year. Took about 10 minutes from the time they showed, through the installation and confirming the cell signal.
Prior to the cell monitor, Irving was always solid in terms of their estimates of fuel usage to gauge when to fill the tank. Having a whole house generator has given an additional level of confidence knowing that if there are one or more extended power outages, the monitor will reflect an accurate remote tank level and prompt a fill. I don’t monitor my tank level and don’t pay extra for the feature. |

Saw the propane truck backing down the driveway first thing this morning. I am on a on-call with the supplier so I was confused. Long story short, my 300 lb tank as a wifi device. $2.54 a gal

I purchased a generac wifii device for above ground dual tanks. The driving reason is from an incident where the tanks leaked out over a couple of days from a faulty refill. Very dangerous situation we unknowingly arrived to. It now provides great situational awareness for a house that is used in an irregular pattern. Wifii connectivity has been erratic at times; likely my router. In the summer with all propane systems off; no pilot; I can see a decrease overtime. Is this typical with others?
