Morning everybody, I was searching around on Google Maps and saw this odd set of trails.. Maybe dirt bike trails? Does anybody know.. It's in Moultonborough, Says Second Neck on it. Below Hanson Dr. and above Eagle Shore Rd. Here are some pictures...

I agree. The area behind our home - Paugus Bay State Forrest - looks similar from an aerial view, although the "paths" are now green.

A very difficult golf course

Wow, that would be some very neet logging compared to what I've seen.. But makes sense!!

Eagle Shores

That is a 51 acre lot for sale on Eagle Shores. They logged it and placed some roads thru it. I guess they want to sell it now. It is listed.

So, I Can Only Guess What Remains...

Last summer, a well-read friend asked me, "What one resource fueled the westward expansion of America's colonial settlers?" My answer, "White Pine?"

Close--the correct answer was "North America's forests".

What my friend didn't know, is that our lakefront acre was "logged". To build our cottage, we had painted a big white "X" on the trees that needed to go. The logger ignored our directions and proceeded to remove every "marketable" tree! :eek2: There's a few Sugar Maple, but only because the surrounding 100 acres was a Maple Syrup enterprise. Left standing was one Cedar, one White Oak, and one Hickory, and probably because they were spindly--back 70 years ago.

Over the years, I've encouraged the re-growth of White Pine, but Eastern Hemlock has displaced almost every other species. Sometimes, young Hemlocks themselves are "shaded-out".

So, how "marketable" is Eastern Hemlock?

Answer: "Not very". It's not even recommended to burn it in anything that has a chimney!

Logging

A similar thing can be seen near Laconia Airport off of Lily Pond Road next to the Belknap County Sportsmen Association as that's where logging was performed. It's rare to see clear-cut logging anymore.

Map is not that old.

Kerrie Court is the cul-de-sac in center near pond.

The road going off beginning of Eagle Shore Road is called Over The Hill Road. That sign was taken down years ago. Now blocked by a log.
That property contains 51 acres and one lot on Lake Winnipesaukee. Abuts both Redding Lane and Eagle Shore Road. Periodically goes on for sale every few years. Owned by 2 sisters out of state.
Would make a nice private estate with house placed on top of hill. With maybe nice views. And access to lake and one 30 foot dock.
Or some could be sub-divided.

Not sure who listing agency is. But not much of a description.
