New Hampshire Humane Society Auction

You may or may not know that I am a volunteer at the New Hampshire Humane Animal Shelter in Laconia. This year NHHS will be having an 'Animal Lovers Auction' Sunday, April 9th at the Belknap Mill in downtown Laconia. All proceeds will benefit the welfare of the shelter animals at NHHS.

It is amazing how many people give various donations to NHHS, but what's more amazing is the number of unwanted and abandoned animals. The shelter goes through more cases of bleach in a month than you and I will in a lifetime when laundering the animal beds and blankets. Not only do the animals not yet have their 'forever home' many do not have toys to play with. Things we all take for granted like kitten treats or dog bones, are not common place at the shelter unless they are donated or purchased with donated funds. But I'm sure you can guess that treats and bones are not first on the shopping list when donated funds are being distributed.

Now the part you have all been anticipating - my solicitation.

I would like to ask each of you to look in to your attics, basements, closets, garages and hearts to see if there are items you would like to donate to this auction. Maybe you have a craft, hobby or particular talent and would like to donate one of your own creations to the auction. Maybe you own a business or know someone who does and you could solicit a gift certificate from the business to donate. All of these are great ways to contribute. Some of the items will be featured on the NHHS website in March promoting the auction.

If you would like to contribute or know someone who would, please let me know of your items by February 24th. If you have photos of the items you can send me, that would be great. I would need to make arrangements with you to receive the item by April 1st. Please remember all donations are tax deductible.

In anticipation, I thank you for your time, consideration and contributions. If you are unable to contribute at this time, that's ok, maybe you w ill consider making a contribution at another point in time. Maybe you will join us on April 9th and be the winning bidder on some great items!!!

Thank you!

The details of the Auction are;
  • Preview time on the Sunday from 1-2p.m.
  • Silent auction running concurrently
  • Live auction begins at 2p.m.
  • Event finishes at 4p.m.

Outlaw - you can count on me! Would you send me an email so we can arrange to get some GC's to you? We're heading out on vacation on 2/22 so it'll have to be either before then, or after 3/5. You let me know what works for you! ;)

Quilt Lady 02-14-2006 09:04 AM

Count me in!

:D The Quilt Lady is also a Cat Lover!!!:D I have a small quilt (42" x 70") made with cat fabrics that I will donate to the cause. Let me know how you want to handle a pickup or delivery.

dpg 02-14-2006 11:53 AM

Outlaw - is there an address you can post to the shelter for a check to be sent? No doggie should have to go without a good bone or two once in awhile. My little four-legged friend "Hunter" reminds me of that all the time!!!;)

It's Valentine's Day and the Fur Babies will love you!

That is so awesome and generous! I and all the fur babies greatly appreciate your donation. I am a great fan of handmade quilts (don't make them, but love to see them and buy them). I know it is absolutely gorgeous. We can email and make arrangements for me to pick it up.

THANKS A MILLION !

Quilt Lady 02-14-2006 04:28 PM

We also deliver . . .

Outlaw . . . if it is easier, I can take the quilt to the shelter. Just let me know what you want to do. It's not a fancy quilt but cat lovers will buy anything with cats on it. I know!

The shelter is so excited about your quilt as am I having seen one of beautiful works of art first hand. Right now the shelter is in the process of moving from their old building to the new facility so things are a bit chaotic over there. To lighten the load I've been housing all the auction donations in my house for now.

Not a problem for me to pick up the quilt. You're in West Alton right? I;m usually there once a week. I will be able to coordinate with you to get it some time after March 6th - got a lot of work things and travel over the next two weeks. I will put in my calendar to get in touch with you after March 6th.

Again, thank you so very much for the wonderful donation.

Quilt Lady 02-14-2006 09:35 PM

Ok, Outlaw, will be in touch in March. Now . . . everybody else out there . . . you all must have had a dog or cat in your life at some time. How about joining in and helping a good cause. These wonderful creatures are the only love money can buy and they never, ever laugh at you or tell your secrets. Lets help them out!!!

Auction donation

Dear Outlaw:

My wife (Deb's Joy) has a cottage business, Cozy Companions, making pet clothing and beds known as "Pet Puffs". Both she and my daughter have volunteered at the shelter in the past and she would be delighted to donate a pet puff for the auction.

We are in Gilford often and can also drop it off at the shelter.

Drop me a line at mistyblue01@adelphia.net to make arangements for the pickup.

Absolutely wonderful donation. I know pet lovers at the auction will definitely start a bidding war on this item. I may just have to throw my hat into the ring for this. Thank you, your wife and daughter for the wonderful donation.

Thank you Quilt Lady - I couldn't have said it better myself. We are still in need of many more items for the auction. I made a personal goal to myself to raise at least 20 donations. I've got a good start but I'm a ways off from 20.

I sure hope they never tell my secrets....................

Donation idea: Ask your favorite restaurant, hair salon, Store - such as - Outdoor Clothing Store, Wal-Mart, Card Shop, Car Wash, Liquor Store, Landscape Supply Company, Grocery Store, Flower Shop, etc. if they would be willing to donate a Gift Certificate to the NHHS Auction.

Adoption

If I weren’t allergic to dogs, cats and rabbits, I would have definitely taken one of these cuties home.
(Rattlesnake Dog is a Cairn and has hair not fur - thankfully I am not allergic to him!)
I notice that a couple dogs must have been adopted since Saturday. Lucky dogs.
