It was suggested in another thread that the subject of casinos should be discussed separately.

When I posted that there are no casinos at or near the Weirs, it was noted that there is a Lakes Region Casino, located in Belmont.

I've been to it over the years, as recently as last summer.

Last August it was a ghost town: no table games, no working slots: just poker IIRC.

The slots I saw there some years back were weird, and not the ones I usually see in the "real" casinos I play at, e.g. no IGT games etc.

Some years ago there was BJ and craps but not last summer, and when they did have craps the payoffs differed from and were substantially less than in a "real" casino.

Many of us enjoy gambling; sure, some become addicted but hey, "Live free or die," right?

The management change it out based on demand.
We don't do slots in NH.

The craps ''payout'' was probably adjusted toward the House as the demand for such was probably too low.

Simply a matter of the local market.

Even Rockingham couldn't stay open, and it was in a much larger market.

Poker had a resurgence due to television.

Right now I think it is towards sports betting; but I don't gamble so it is just what I see.

You'll have to wait for Big House and see what they have to offer.

The only other way would to bring it to the management of LRC and be able to persuade some higher end players that it is worth the effort to change it into something they see is worthy of their expenditures.

Just visited Mohegan Sun for the first time (Springsteen!). It's not my scene, but I could see how for a lot of folks, it's a fun night out...in the middle of nowhere. As suggested in above posts about recent gambling in NH experiences, I can't see it working in a place that people are already flooding to for other purposes. The lake and other resources have driven real estate values up dramatically--this is not Uncasville or Everett where the casino land is essentially free

Belmont, and the other tracks, couldn't survive when we started a 10% tax on gambling winnings. Their business evaporated in a matter of weeks. That tax also took a big chunk out of lottery ticket sales. Fortunately, the legislature changed hands and the tax repeal was rushed through, but it was too late and Belmont never recovered. Recall, dog racing was also banned. Belmont had some telephone betting, I believe, which helped cover overhead. That went away with the tax. Population centers need to be larger to support large table game and slot venues, large hotel/entertainment centers can carry some of that load.

NH also has the Brook in Seabrook at the old dog track, and the Hampton Beach Casino/Ocean Gaming at Hampton Beach.

I have heard that both the Big House and Paugus Bay Pub put in applications to become a casino, but only 1 permit will be given out.

I think they actually stopped running dogs here before the ban. The telephone betting went kaput around the time that a drug raid led to findings that management had been money laundering.

Camping muddled through and recovered from from the M&R being expanded to campsites rented short term.

It really doesn't have that upper-class pizazz; which is its problem.

Location is everything.

There is a big bunch of vacant land behind CruzCon/Stephens Landscaping on Route 25/Whittier Highway in Moultonborough.

Would make a perfect location for a casino.

Create lots of jobs. Lots of income for all of the local businesses.

The State of NH doesn't have a lack of jobs... it has a lack of workforce.

Its gotten so bad, we don't even advertise on websites or in the newspaper because it cost money for nothing.

Bruton Smith, former owner of NHMS was lobbying for a casino across the street from the racetrack. That would have been an excellent choice for the local economy. Access from 93, available land and 'rural' setting.
