Water Temps
 

I have been keeping a fishing log book for the past 15 years or so which includes water temp at different depths as well as thermocline depths. Based on my log, we are about three weeks ahead for water temps. Basically on average the water temps we have today normally we don’t see for at least 2 1/2 - 3 more weeks.

I imagine algae blooms and plant growth will be very bad this year or at least occurring much earlier than normal….

Do you find that surprising? If I had to guess temps in the April through June time frame this year have been below average. Maybe it has to do with the warm Winter/early ice out? :confused:

Definitely the early ice out / no ice played a factor. I was hoping a cooler and wetter spring would balance things out a little but it didn’t. I have never seen a thermocline fully set up this early in the season as much as it is now…

What depths are you measuring at? How far down is the thermocline? Temps above/below? More fish below?

I always take my temp readings over 100’ of water. The top of the Thermocline today was at 29’. As water warms it usually settles around 35’. Bait fish will be in the thermocline therefore the majority of game fish (salmon, Rainbow trout) will be also… 65-67 degrees above, 56 + or - at or below….

Well, my son and I swam on Memorial Day and we found it "pretty cold" but not "painfully frigid" ... still haven't swam in April water since 1991 and that window might be permanently shut :P

The grandchildren were swimming Memorial Day weekend. Bit chilly. All survived
