Wicked Loon Wolfeboro bait and switch
1 Attachment(s)
Went to Wicked Loon in Wolfeboro today for “half price happy hour drinks and appetizers”. After ordering and drinking was told “we don’t do that any more”. Then why do you still have the giant banner advertising happy hour? When did you stop honoring the ad? Answer a week and a half ago.

If the sign is still posted then I would think they should honor the half price offer......
Shame on them if they don't! |
They did not honor the sign nor seem to care
|
I care and will be spreading the word. Have you contacted NH attorney general?
Why would anyone want to do business with a place like this. Let's see if the sign is down tomorrow. |
I'd have cancelled the drink order and asked for the manager.
|
I would have only paid the half price rate, refusing to pay full price. If this sign lured you in then they are obligated to honor the special. Go back and demand a refund! Deceptive advertising really irks me.

Sinister thinkers would invite about ten of their friends to join them there. Order a bunch of drinks. After they arrive, ask if they're half price...No?
Send them all back. |
Here in the flatlands, it's Chapter 93a, the deceptive / bait and switch law. It is as illegal as anything can be, whether it is a million-dollar house or twenty bucks in drinks.
With a shady little small business like this one, it is tough...because obviously they are not going to care what any patron says, so it would have to come from the threat of litigation, and that sounds like major time and expense to recoup twenty bucks. My thought is to keep doing what we are doing here and pass the word about this illegal and shady place. Anyone else able to corroborate, before we organize some serious slander !?! |
A week and a half is a long time to have an undated sign up for a promotion no longer being honored.
I would totally have expected a "just a note that the 1/2 price no longer applies" before ordering or an "I totally forgot to let you know" after with an updated tab. Mistakes happen, but just blowing it off isn't cool. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |
No question they should have honored half price. My mood would have determined whether I would have paid the whole thing or refused to pay anything or whatever. Probably would have paid, just so I could return.
But I do not think it was "sinister", I'm going with incompetent. We have been to Wicked Loon 5 or 6 times. Every time the food is excellent, and every time the service is almost comically bad. In separate visits--they do not have our reservation, they insist on seating in in a sweltering hot table when other seats are available, the apps never arrive, the wrong sides arrive and it's impossible to even understand how they got them so wrong, the water glasses are filthy. All these are just off the top of my head, seriously, it's become a family joke when they err. Nevertheless, the food really is excellent. We will be back. You just need to forgive them for being incompetent bumblers |
Honestly, if you’re seeing dirty glasses, screw ups with orders, etc. it probably carries over to similar issues in the kitchen & management. I’ll wait a while to see how things shake out.

Wicked Loon bait and switch
Sad story, and just think, the same person who owns Wicked Loon also owns LocalTopia and Downtown Grille. Apparently, he is not doing Wolfeboro any favors running a bait and switch scam. There are other places to eat in this town.

The sign was down as of 8 AM today.

I am not defending the WL and I have no affiliation with them but...
It is possible that someone was told to remove the sign and simply forgot to do so. Of course, once the conflict became known the correct thing to do was to honor the offer and get the sign down immediately. My point is that it is reasonable to assume innocence rather than bad intent. When I owned my business things would happen such as an HVAC failure. I would expend a lot of effort to remedy the problem asap. Sometimes it would be at great expense for expedited service or over nighted parts. That was the right thing to do. Unfortunately, I would sometimes hear customers complaining saying "That cheap &@#% won't pay to keep us cool". |
