 Thanks

 | I use a short med action spinning rod with an open face spinning reel. Fill your spool with a premium super braid line to minimize stretch. You should use about 10’ of 10-15 lb test fluorocarbon as a leader. Be sure to use a quality barrel swivel between lines.

Any of the vertical jigs used for ice fishing will work but I prefer a Cabela’s “Real Image” split body jig but a Swedish pimple or a bucktail and similar will certainly work fine.

The trick with jigging for lakers is it must be calm so you can find the stacked lakers on your fish finder then stay over them without moving. Any wind at all will blow you off them and you will be trolling instead of jigging and they won’t hit.

Look for deep holes where lakers will stack up in what I call their pre-spawn mode. A good hole will keep you busy reeling in fish after fish as there is an over abundance of lake trout in Winni!

Enjoy and good luck!
