After digitizing about 2,000 photos my self I decided to outsource my VHS, 8mm VHS, VHS-C, & 8mm film stock. I finally went with iMemories with the option to return everything. I was pleased with the ease of whole project from the prepaid shipping box they sent, to the results (some of the film was over 30 yrs old and the tapes were over 20. Both had started to deteriorate. It was costly but slightly less than the local option I had. Not local but, I would certainly recommend them.
The only down side is that, if I knew the quality of some of the older, degraded tapes I wouldn’t have wasted my $ on them. However, I did pay a small extra to have them review for blank tapes so I didn’t pay the full price to copy them. They put the results on the media of your choice and also post them to a privatized web cloud portal that you can pay to keep things on long term and give access to anyone you want. I just downloaded everything from the web portal to my computer and deleted the website.
I tried digitizing the VHS-C myself because I had a camera/player that worked and it was a waste of time.
My mistakes were, 1) I didn’t search thoroughly enough and found a couple of additional tapes after everything was done and 2) I had them return everything. Why, I don’t have the equipment to play any of it.
