Lake Wentworth boating
Those of you that have boated on Lake Wentworth, what's it like? Looking at the Navionics map, there appears to be little in the way of rocks. Obviously near the shore along rt 109 there's rocks that can be seen but the majority of the lake looks clear.
Also, how's the access from Mast landing? Doesn't look like I'll have a Winni slip this season so I'm considering trying some other waters. |
Been boating and fishing on Wentworth for many, many years! It's a beautiful lake and generally much less busy than (certainly) Winnie and Winnisquam.
No problem navigating from Mast Landing (the ramp on Crescent Lake, yes)? Parking is very limited.. nice ramp and loading docks. No wake through the channel and pay attention to the markers. The main lake is pretty easy to navigate.. it's marked quite well... but there are areas to watch for. The area by the State Park ( along rte 109) is shallow and rocky.. and the markers are pretty confusing .. trim up and keep watch. On the southern shoreline there are several (three?) Markers well off shore marking extended points. When heading north out of the channel, there are a few markers well out from the western shore marking extended points and small shoals. More importantly, there is a large shoal just about in the center of opening between the markers on the western shore and the large island (Stamp Act Island) and the small group just adjacent. The large shoal is marked with I believe 3 or 4 red markers and 2 black markers. One other area at the eastern end of the lake has two shoals away from shore that are marked so keep an eye out for those areas as well. There is (or was) a navigation published for the lake which is helpful if you're new to the lake. Good Luck... and Enjoy! |
Thanks, any sandbars to hang around?

If you pull up Lake Wentworth on Google Maps you can see the areas that GusMan pointed out.

No "official" sandbars that I am aware of.. but I haven't really paid attention to such things. I believe I have seen people anchored along 109 though.
There is also a decent lake map showing depths ( no navigation aids) on the fish and game website. |
Thanks for the replies. Sounds easy enough to get around. I was mostly interested in the access from Mast Landing as it appears to be the only public access. Worst part seems to be parking. Looks like a middle of the week trip.
