Taphouse - New Coe House tenant
1 Attachment(s)
After whatever dispute the Coe House landlord had with the folks at Gusto, looks like they are going forward with a new project without the Gusto team. Also called the Taphouse, and even the font looks the same. Seems a bit slimy?

Heard from a third person source that the operator of the tap house approached the landlord and made income promises he may not be able to make. Same individuals said this isn’t the first time for this individual

It sounds like the only thing we know for sure is that whoever is taking care of the website is a criminally awful writer.

I need AI
In a flash, I went from Coe House to Belknap College to an illiterate web site to JBolty's stroke to (who remembers?) the Paddlin' Professor, to Chef Elmar's Kentucky High Pie at the Red Hill Inn.

Well, they've also been open for 3 days yet have 6 5-star google reviews, and 3 of them are from people with the same last name.

Happy Hour
Its great they're open from 4-9 Thursday -Sunday but Happy Hour is 3-5 and 9-11. Sounds very slip-shod

They really think $23 bucks for a burger is going to fill the restaurant?

So, it's really $18 for the burger and $5 for the inspiration. Bon appétit. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |
let's give them a chance .

I'm just being snarky because it appears there was an injustice done to the owners of Gusto, who put time and effort into the place after the previous owners shut down. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

I agree about the Gusto owners. I watched them do construction for months, turning that place around and putting their own stamp on the place. I don't know what happened to cause them to leave but I agree that it seemed like an injustice against them. The new tenant will surely have to contend with that, and I just think calling themselves by the same name (taphouse) with the same style font comes off very predatory.

It's pretty interesting that someone would effectively offer to profit share with a landlord. I'm not a restaurant guy, but I am a business guy and this type of arrangement seems like business suicide for the restaurant proprietor. I wonder if Gusto entered into a similar agreement, then this gentleman came along and offered a bigger slice of the pie? If this is the case, I suspect that maybe Gusto, after writing a few profit sharing checks was unwilling to give up more???
It's all speculation on my part, I have no idea what is going on here. But I am very disappointed that Gusto left that location. I really think that they hit their stride there, the food was wonderful, their events well thought out and entertaining, hopefully they can keep that stride going back across the street in a smaller space. My issue with a profit sharing scenario is that the share comes out of the restaurant's gross profit... most likely. There is a lot of competing needs for that money, including equipment and maintenance needs, expansion needs, debt, cash flow needs, it just goes on and on. If not well designed, the landlord could end up with a bigger ultimate payout than the people putting the blood sweat and tears into the business take home. Again, I have no personal understanding of what is actually transpiring here, but if it's correct, it does explain why businesses have struggled in this location. I hope that the new restaurant does well and lasts a long time. I'm certainly going to give it a few tries. |

I’m pretty sure the “smash burger” gas is at its tail end but they went with it anyway. [emoji38]. At least they didn’t put “Kitchen” in their name. Wishing them the best of luck.

I meant fad not gas. I still don’t know how to edit/fix typos using the app, sorry.

Ate at the Taphouse tonight with my family and a friend. Got basic pub food—pizza, wings, tenders, grilled chicken Caesar salad, smashburger, and a few sodas—and all was solid other than thin cheese and toppings on the pizzas.
Prices were reasonable (not awesome) but service was excellent, and it's a great location/building, so we'll be adding it to our rotation and recommend y'all giving it a go. Sent from my SM-S931U using Tapatalk |

Also, for a small comparison: Pub 23's wings were MUCH better than Taphouse Winnipesaukee's. Especially for one smackeroo each! Sent from my SM-S931U using Tapatalk |
Ok, I really want to like this place, but my lord are they inconsistent.
We've been told every time we've visited—three times now—that the food "comes out as it's finished," which means there are people watching their food cool while others are still waiting to be served. The pizza has also been all over the map. The first one was really light on cheese, the second one pretty good, and tonight's was almost too cheesy. I'm guessing they're still working things out, but we've yet to have a singular consistent experience. Sent from my SM-S931U using Tapatalk |
I went with my son last week and we had a margarita pizza. It had sliced tomatoes vs sauce and was thinner than a thin crush and had balsamic on it . I was different and was ok

Went last week with a group of 11. We made the reservation on line and were there at 5. Got sat right away but it was very warm inside. The waitstaff took our drink order and it took a while to get them (restaurant not busy either). The drinks came (very good btw) and we put in our order. The order came out almost immediately. We all ordered sandwiches and a few of the sandwiches didn’t come out as described on the menu. The waitstaff was confused when we brought it to their attention but did remedy it finally. Sandwiches just OK certainly not worth the price. Could have had a better chicken sandwich at Wendy’s. All in all waitstaff seemed inexperienced especially with knowing the menu and timing of things. Food mediocre but drinks very good! Won’t be back for dining but would sit outside for a beer and an app perhaps in the future.

OK, but not great...
...we broke our own rule of not going out to dinner on the weekends in the summer last night, but due to a clogged kitchen sink, we had to call an audible. Anyway, we did a reservation on-line for 6:15. Got in no problem. In fact, the main dining room on the first floor was totally empty; the smallish room on the first floor that we were in only had two other tables occupied.
3 of us each got a side caesar salad and we split a sausage pizza. The lettuce was green and fresh. They served the dressing on the side, (without our having to ask for it on the side), which was great, because we don't use a lot of it. The dressing was underwhelming, however. In fact, my daughter asked, "Dad, is this Ranch?" The description of the sausage pizza did not indicate if it was sweet or hot, so I asked the waitress, and her reply was, "it's not spicy...it's normal". It was definitely not sweet; had a lot of zip to it. We ate it...not worth complaining about, but it would have been nice to know what kind of sausage it was in advance. Bottom line for us was that it was OK...not great; not horrible. Most likely will not go back. Better choices right in downtown Meredith that are closer and better. Final note: The Beer Garden did seem to be hopping. It was a nice evening to be outside and they had live music as well. |
