I went to the Woodshed 3-weeks ago. When it came time for dessert a menu was presented with no prices. The menu had 5-6 dessert choices and several scotch selections. I asked why no prices and was told everything on the menu was $13.00 or $14.00. Ok. A member of the party ordered a piece of cheese cake.

Last week we went back and when it came time for dessert I decided to order a glass of single malt scotch, MaCallan 12 to be exact. I made the assumption that a glass was $13.00 or $14.00 based upon what I was told a couple of weeks prior. Bad assumption. When the bill came I was charged $30.00 for the scotch. I’m fine with charging whatever the market will bear but this pricing seemed way of line and rather deceptive. I finally returned to the Woodshed after they got rid of the Soup Nazi (Thank God. He was terrible) but they still have some work to do. Charge whatever you’d like but be above board.

You went to a high end restaurant and really expected Macallan 12 to be $13-14?!?

I don’t consider the Woodshed to be a “high end” restaurant when compared to truly high-end restaurants in Boston or New York but everyone has a different perspective. That aside, my biggest issue is the lack of disclosure. Plus we are talking about MacAllan 12, not MaCallan 18. A bottle of MaCallan 12 can be bought for $85.00. There are approximately 25 oz in a bottle and a pour is about 1.5 oz so doing the math that is a 488% markup on a bottle assuming no waste or heavy pours. But again, it’s not about the price I just think prices should be posted. Thanks

Heck. I got a domestic draft beer (blue moon) in a plastic cup at the golf course the other day and they charged $10.00. I would expect imported scotch in a restaurant to be a lot more than my beer.

I'm with secondcurve on this one - and I know restaurants and liquor and pricing. Not everyone knows their stuff...so if a menu comes and has no pricing and you ask for pricing and they say everything is $13 or $14, then everything should be $13 or $14!

There is either a great deal of ineptitude, or some borderline criminal deception going on here, taking advantage of some folks. Perhaps both...

If I get a menu with no pricing I will definitely ask, but I rarely get into those situations because I rarely visit those kinds of restaurants.
I've been to the Woodshed 3 times, and it never felt inviting, although that was when Greg was in charge. I'm not sure I will ever return.

If the only thing keeping you away is memories of Greg, you should go back. We're in the pub 3-4x/month--it is not like years past, everyone is welcoming to all, not just regulars. The food, service, and vibe are excellent; and the drinks are a very heavy pour. That last item may be the disconnect for the OP.

Even better, this season (for another week or two?) they are open on Mondays--easy to cruise in anytime and get a table at the pub

I don’t disagree that they have a nice product. It’s the no prices on the menu that drives me crazy. You only do this to screw people.

Yes. Because that is what I was told by the waiter. And trust me, $30.00 for one and a half ounces of average scotch is high wherever you are dining, with the exception of maybe uber high end locations like Nantucket.
