Lakes Congress June 5
 

The annual conference organized by NH Lakes is set for June 5 at the Grappone Center. Keynote will be about getting people enthused about our lakes and much more later in the day.

Sessions will include these topics and more:

A cyanobacteria and algae identification workshop
Climate change and our lakes
Managing healthy shoreland vegetation
Smart salt solutions
Finding funding through grant programs
Management of aquatic invasive species

Given the seeming ever increasing cost of lake front property I'd have assigned a "mission accomplished" label on that task.

With the loss of cabin rentals the "old school" method of renting a rustic cabin for a week or two is less likely to occur, and for many staying in a motel isn't as fun as a lakeside cabin.

There should be enough lake front STRs to handle that.
The State's issue is the short term renting without paying the M&R tax.
The local issue seems to be the desire of some property owners to expand into areas that are not even close to the lake.

We saw this during the last super cycle when real estate listings would have a Franklin/Hill property listed in a Boston newspaper with the details stating "near Lake Winnipesaukee".
