Weekend stay w/ boat slip?
 

I thought there was a thread like this, but I can't find the right words to search on.

My father and mother would like to spend a long weekend up on Winni with their boat. Are there any hotels on the lake that can or do include boat slipping for the stay? Any in the area that would let you keep the boat/trailer on site (if he decided to launch and retrieve every day)?

I know that Church's Landing has some "first come, first serve" docks out in front, but it's not clear that those are restricted to hotel guests or anything...

The NASWA has docks, no problem and I am pretty sure they will let you keep the trailer on site if its not a busy weekend.

I almost forgot about the Margate too...

Sandy Point has docking + launch ramp
 

Sandy Point Beach Resort has docks for rent for motel guests, but the slips are small and probably won't hold a boat much more than 20 feet. They do however have their own launch ramp and I'm sure they would let you keep a longer boat on the trailer and relaunch each day.

From a number of friends of ours who have stayed there -- I highly recommend the Center Harbor Inn !!

You can store your trailer and best of all the Public ramp in right beside the Inn.

The Con's of others previously mentioned - the Margate charges a small fortune for slip privliges (you might as well rent another room and tuck your boat away at nite) -- The Naswa can get a little hetic on a Sunday with the "entertainment" (you did say it was your parents).

Others, not mentioned is Chritmas Island -- assigned slips are available and they have a ramp & storage area for your trailer. Same with Silver Sands.

With regard to Church Landing -- the slips are for hotel guests (including the long slip in front of Lago) - it may be a little tricky getting a spot during a week-end day, as they are not assigned to guests only - but at nite we've never found it a huge issue.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression the the slips at Church Landing were actually public slips. I believe the hotel paid for the docking structure but as a concession to the town for the wrap around boardwalk they had to leave the slips public. Even so, Meredith does allow overnight docking, right?

Pretty sure Silver Sands has rooms with docks.

I don't believe Meredith allows any overnight docking after a certain date, like May 15th... the docks in front of Church Landing are public, not rentable

While the docks in front of Church Landing are public w/ no overnight docking, the single pier in front of Bay Point is owned by the Mill Falls people, and you can dock there overnight on a space available basis if you are a guest.

The Inn at Smith Cove is worth a look. My wife and I enjoyed our stay there. The dock is decent and it is in a protected cove.

Motel and Boat Slip
 

Try Barton's in Laconia (603-524-5674)....... nice and clean (tho a little "retro" in design, but the parents may appreciate that!), and quiet, and very reasonable rates! They have rooms as well as cottage-type units (with a 3-night minimum), you can dock the boat there as well as keep the trailer there. It's owned by an older couple, and they run the place very well. They don't have a launch, but the boat can be launched at Lakeport Landing, not too far away. As far as the Margate goes, it's not all that great shakes as far as cleanliness, last I knew; it also can be quite the hike from the parking lot to the room. Last time I stayed there was about 12-14 years ago, and at that time they charged $50 a night to dock the boat overnight! :rolleye1:

A few years back (3 at the most) we looked at putting folks up at the Margate for a Columbus day week-end -- The slips were $100 a NITE !! On top of a hefty room rate.

Thats why I said in my earlier post "if you stay there you might as well get the boat a room and tuck it in at nite"!! We ultimately put the folks at Bay Inn (Church Landing was in it's final year of construction at the time - to help date it). The down side there is the room rate when there are so many other more reasonable ($$) options.

ThePlut - what week-end were you thinking of -- I may have another option.

Thanks for all the pointers. I've forwarded them to my mother (this may be a 60th birthday gift for my dad). No weekend in particular yet, his birthday is in Sept, but I'm sure they'd do something earlier than that...

Church Landing Docks
 

Whens staying at Church Landing, I spoke with the hotel about the docks. Although they are public docks, it seems that they are only public during the day, and Church Landing has "exclusive use" of them overnight for those guests who bring boats (on a first come, first served basis).

I guess that maked everyone right!

Smith Cove Inn
 

I think your parents would like the Smith Cove Inn. With proper booking you can guarantee a slip for their boat. They have several lovely rooms and a nice breakfast to kick off the day. We stayed there several time before we got our place on Cow. We have also had friends stay there. :banana:

Would they be able to launch the boat each day? If so Lakeport Landing has a nice boat ramp and you can usually get a place to park on the street. Then simply tow the boat to the Margate or Churches Landing, et al. It certainly is more economical.:cheers:

We stayed at Center Harbor once but the rooms were so so and the mattress was lumpy.Not sure what they have done to improve the place. I think we stayed there around 2000. :blush:

Cobolt -- I agree with your 2000 assesment of Center Harbor Inn -- It's under new Management since then --

It's still nothing extravagant (like Church Landing)-- a standard "hotel room" but it's clean, friendly, easy to get to. And most importantly reasonably priced WITH slips!!

All in all -- not a bad spot for a Friday/Sat nite stay if your boating all day
