Observations

I have just returned from my week of bliss at the lake. It was hard enough leaving, but we got to return after making it to Bay due to a forgotten toy. It was just as hard leaving the second time. I noticed a few things while there, and thought that I would throw them out here and see what comes of them:
1) Wow, was that an intense little tempest that blew through on Tuesday. I thought that the flagpole would snap, and hail on the plastic boathouse roof is noisy.

2) Has anyone noticed considerably more helicopter traffic over the lake? It makes me wonder if it is sightseeing, or ....protective observation.

3) Apparently the boating certification has had no real effect on how people will operate their boats: They will still cross in front of sailboats, and pass you wherever they want when meeting head on in powerboats. Nothing has changed. After 30 years on the Lake, I am used to it, but I did have SOME hope that the certification might change things.

4) My final observation- How is it that Lake weeks go Sat., Sun, Mon, Tues, Sun. ? I seem to have lost a few days in the middle somewhere.
Next year, maybe Two weeks.....

vacations on the lake

Rumguy, I hear ya!
I had usually taken one-week vacations in the past. When I finally managed to get a two-week vacation here, I told myself I would never go back to one week vacations. Two weeks isn't twice as good as one week, it's ten times better! It usually takes until middle of first week to wind down, only to realize you're halfway through vacation. Gotta go 2 weeks. Plus, the best time on this lake is Sunday night through Friday morning. Times when you don't get many of the issues most of the people gripe about on the forum. It's truly sweet RIGHT NOW (hint: I'm on vacation:) ).

RumGuy:
I believe the first week-end of your vacation was NASCAR week-end? If so, I remember a thread from about this time last year stating that the increased helicopter traffic may have been Bob Bahre shuttling guests back and forth from the racetrack to his little camp on the lake - McD

p.s. ...so glad that it is YOU back in Foxborough this week and not ME! :D

Everone knows your vacation week is the shortest week of the year:( . To cure this you should take the week BEFORE your vaction off also , because we all know that's the longest week of the year:rolleye2: . To totally optimze your vacation take the week AFTER too because that's the second longest week of the year:laugh:  .

I have heard the same thing, and living at the top of Alton Bay, I can pretty much confirm that to be true! It is unbelievable on NASCAR weekends!

Also, as for the jets... we took a scenic plan ride a couple years ago out of Laconia (got lots of great pixs!). I asked the pilot why, at times, there are an incredible number of jets parked at the airfield. He told me it was very specifically related to students coming and going from Brewster Academy (big bucks there!) events and vacations. I'm sure this would include summer events as well. I found that pretty amazing.

I also wonder if increased jet traffic might have something to do with Meadowbrook concerts as well.

Ditto: better you than me commuting! I did the Mass. commute for way too many years! Horror!

more random thoughts

I just came back Sunday from the Laconia- Weirs Beach area things I noticed:

1. I thought it was more quieter than usual

2. People still dont know how to drive boats as I have seen them cutting off each other just by watching from the Weirs I see this

3. I just missed the big boat fire, just I was heading back to the hotel at the Weirs < Weirs Beach Motel ok a cheap plug> and the sirens were going off but I had my back to it and didnt think anything of it. I realized it was huge when I went down for the fireworks and everyone was watching but it was out already

4. Lots of construction on RT93 out of Manchester and again out of Concord and also some on 495, I didnt find 290 to be that bad and the Mosquito bridge isnt bad at all. Another Nusicance is I think either rt 11 or rt11B where this only one lane open due to them putting in sewer pipes in the middle of the Summer.

5. The lake is still beautiful as always and I cant wait to go back again next week
