'Stealth' radar helps Laconia target speeders

LACONIA, N.H. (AP) - Police in Laconia are using a new weapon against speeders.

It's called "StealthStat." It's shoebox-sized metal box containing radar and a recording computer, which can be mounted on a telephone pole or on a building to allow police to track speed without having drivers notice it.

Information gathered over four to five days can produce graphs and statistics showing everything from speed to vehicle counts. It's usually set up in areas where police have received complaints about speeding. If the complaints are confirmed, police can send in officers to run radar and ticket speeders.
