Stonedam Island approach

We haven't been to Stonedam Island but plan to today. Does the approach accomodate a sailboat with a 2 foot draft? I have read it is pretty shallow. Is the bottom rocky vs sandy?

Anything I should be aware of would be appreciated.

Thanks,
pmj

If you heed the charted rocks, the bottom is rocky and deep almost all the way in. Right near the docks it gets shallow, I don't remember any rocks, but here a tree limbs and debris covering a sandy bottom. With the water at it's current depth, I don't think you will be able to dock. Mid-summer, the shore end of the dock was barely 18" deep and the deep end was a little better than 2 feet. You probably need to dinghy or swim/wade in.

I guess my post on Monday to help you with a trip planned for Sunday was untimely. Did you make it to the island?

GWC-thanks for posting the sign photo and the links. I was not aware of the rules posted.

jrc-thank you for the detail about the depth. we did not go over the Stonedam on Sunday. We decided to explore parts of the lake that we had not explored yet and take advantage of the few puffs of wind. I think we raised and lowered our motor about 8 times. Wind can be feast or famine on this lake. What a gorgeous day it turned out to be!

Thanks again!
