Dont let inlaws drive boat.
 

My brother in law was nice enough to take a chunk out of my prop and a 2 inch piece of the bottom of the outdrive.He was coming to pick me up after parking trailer, he was to close to the shore line and ran into some rocks.My boat now has a nice vibration when speeding up. Last time I let him drive.

So, you figure he did it on purpose just to make your life miserable?

You think that is bad. My son asked me if he could take the boat to the dock after I launched it, sure why not. I got rid of the trailer and came back and their is my whole boat up on the rocks by the landing in Norwich CT.

That was a few years ago. I do not know how my temper was controlled, but I went back got the trailer, several people helped put the boat back in the water.

And yes, he lived to talk about it, but I don't think he has, and yes he can take my boat anytime he wants. Accidents happen.

Yep that is the long and short of it....Many of my neighbors and myself included got new boats this year. And we all had incidents this summer....why we didn't in our old boats who knows.....That is just life..........

Sorry to hear that; had he had any real experience piloting a boat before? May have been a good question to ask, if you didn't prior to letting him drive. One thing to keep in mind is, accidents happen! Heaven knows some have happened with my own boat, and with an experienced "driver"!

I know you just started boating, at least here, in July -- judging by your initial post you didn't sound too happy about it, and you didn't have great experiences from day one so this probably seems like just one more unhappy thing. I hope your winter is better and you can forget about this season and may your second season on the Lake be a sunny one!!!!!

I thinks it was probably the rocks that took the chunk out of your propeller and outdrive, not your brother in law !:laugh:

coincidentally, the rocks got a piece of my outdrive this summer too up by the center harbor docks. Fortunately it was jus a piece and not a "chunk" so it was just cosmetic.

Well we all live and learn I guess.My boat has been sent to be winterized.Will deal with prop come spring.

Just a suggestion......... you may want to deal with it before then. When that first warm day comes after ice out and you want to get out on the water but can't because you don't have an operational prop, you'll really be kicking yourself! (And possibly your bro-in-law) :D

Waiting until spring to address the ding in the prop is like waiting for a rainy day to patch the leak in the roof.

Buy the prop now online (before the '07 price increase) and install it yourself at your convenience or have your marina do it now (before their '07 price increase and labor rate hike:eek: ). Just a thought

This year I tried something new. I have wanted to try a four bladed prop on my 115 Hp Evinrude, and them stainless steel props are a bit steep, so this year I got a composite 4 bladed prop. It worked well, did not do as well as I was hoping, and will use it till I can't. I do not think I got any additional speed out of it, and I don't think I pulled my son on skies to find out. I did pull my 70 lb grandson on a device but that don't count. Next year after my son adds another 10 lbs we will try. Maybe need an extra propellar.:emb:

I have found that 4 blade aluminum props are a pretty decent alternative to 3 blade SS props for 1/3 the price. The extra blade reduces flexing by reducing the load per blade so they bite almost as well as a three blade SS.

I put a 4 blade SS prop on my previous boat and was thrilled with the performance. That prop felt incredibly well "connected" to the water, much better than the twin 3 blade SS props I now run on my current boat.
