dugg well

I have a camp in Gilford with a buried 120 gal water tank. I have it hooked up to an on demand pump to fill only the toilet during the winter. We have heat tape and a light bulb on the pump so nothing freezes. The problem is we run out of water by early Jan-feb.
Is there anyone out there that still does dug wells or does anyone have another idea during the winter?

you can try a sand point well..

it can be a dyi job too. for about $60 you can buy a sandpoint with 10ft of pipe and you hammer into the ground, you keep adding sections until you hit water. you can go down about 30 ft by hand which can be enough for you to get to teh water table. Add a pump and you have your water source.

I think it is called a "set" point well not sand. It does go into the "sand" because it uses the sand as a filter. Works really well near the lake because the sand is a great natural filter. Make sure you leave a back flush method on your pipe because the set point gets clogged up after awhile.

never heard of set point, but maybe it goes by two names

if you google "sand point well", there are several hits. there is one shown for $57:

Try "driven point well" too. A buddy of mine uses one for all his house water requirements.
