Cancer on Liberty Hill Road, Gilford
WCVB TV in Boston (CH 5) reported tonight (1/26) a story about 18 deaths from cancer clustered on this street in Gilford. Something to do with a coal plant (i think that is what they said) on this site long ago. In case this is an area that forum readers are familiar with (I don't know Gilford geography), I thought I'd pass this info along...

Thanks for fixing my map link.
Thx Skip
My bad..... it looked good on the "preview page" somehow I messed up the link. Thanks for the help correcting it. It is scary.. From what I'm told, Gilford is not alone in concerns about exactly what types of materials were used 25-30 years ago as "fill". I remember working in a campground during my 20's, when they applied used motor oils to "oil" the dirt roads to hold down dust. |
EPA and Liberty Hill, what's up...
Could Liberty Hill be another Love Canal? |
Phew, that was easy...

Attachment 1620 Since this issue has not drawn a comment, guess Gilford should purchase the Liberty Hill properties and ues it for a nuclear waste dump site - a very profitable usage of the property and obviously of little concern to those in the Lake's region.Quote:

This issue still seems to draw little concern.
Where are all the conservation groups? This is a Lake issue. Why the silence? They had plenty to say about the speed limit. What's been flowing into the Lake all these years? Is coal tar a carcinogen? Energy is good. Improper waste disposal is not. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...achmentid=1620 Quote:
