Peking Tokyo

Has anyone tried Peking Tokyo? My husband and I are avid "resteraunteers" who enjoy all types of cuisine. We visited Peking Tokyo recently and the food was nothing below EXCELLENT. I had the crispy pineapple chicken, and my husband had the Kung Pao Lamb. Great portions and great prices! If you haven't tried it yet, please check it out. Its great!

Where is it?

Posters to this forum have a habit of not letting everyone know where the restaurants are when they critique or inquire about them. And then invariably, someone asks where it is? Just like I'm doing! Where is Peking Tokyo???

First I would agree the Peking-Tokyo is a great place to eat if you like Chinese or Japanese cuisine. "Mee" likes the sushi and would add that it's about as good as it gets. "Mac" like his food cooked and stays w/the chinese side of the menu. The P-T is located in the "Walmart" shoping plaza in Gilford.

Peking Tokyo

Ate there tonight!!!! Never had Japanese cuisine before, and it was outstanding. Wife had Chinese (five flavor, I think) and I had chicken udon. one major complaint. It was so good, not much left in the doggie bag for lunch tomorrow!!!!! :liplick:

We ate there in July. It was good but the wait staff was awful. Not very friendly. We had no knives with the place settings and when we asked for knives she threw two knives in the middle of the table (There were four of us in the party.) We asked for two more she huffed and got two more. Our soda was flat and when we mentioned it she looked at us like we were cazy, took them away and finally brought new ones. I don't think I would go back, maybe get take out but I wouldn't deal with that service again.

I ate there last week with a friend & the Chinese food was very good. My friend said the Sushi was also very good. The service was average & I agree the waitress was not the most friendly but this would not stop me from eating there, I'm there for good food not to talk to the waitress.

We've been to Peking-Tokyo several times. Each time we have a perfect meal. Always plenty to take home for tomorrow's lunch. However, we too are confused by the "missing knives"! Maybe a custom we don't know about? Regardless of what the management decides to do about the knives situation, Peking-Tokyo is DEFINATELY a must stop in the Lakes Region. Enjoy!! :liplick:

We have eaten there twice and were favorably impressed. Traditionally, food is eaten with chopsticks in both Japan and China and the food is prepared in bitesize pieces so a knife is not necessary. Therefore, some Asian restaurants in this country do not make knives as part of the table setting, even when forks are given. This does not excuse rudeness on the part of the waitstaff.

Two thumbs up for Peking Tokyo

We go there at least 2 or 3 times a month - the BEST Chinese restaurant in the Gilford area. The drinks - WOW - word of caution on those Mia Tia's ....... :)

Swung through there this weekend based on the reviews I've read here. Great Sushi and VERY tasty Mai Tais!

Peking-Tokyo Restaurant

We have been dining at Peking Tokyo since they opened and they are by far the best place in the Lakes Region for Oriental food. Living in the vicinity of New York City and having dined at various places in Chinatown it is not customary to be given a knife with your place setting, of course if you ask for one you can have one.

My experience of the waitstaff at Peking Tokyo has been favorable realizing that coming from a different cultural background they might not be familiar with some of our terminology. The staff has always been polite and courteous.

Is this still the best Chinese food in the area?

I last ate there about four years ago an it was fine.

Any other contenders?

I haven't tried the Peking-Tokyo yet but based on the reviews I may. I had heard that the Japenese was great but the Chinese was below average.

Other that P-T where else is there for good Chinese? There is a new buffet in the plaza near Big Lots. Good buffet but it's a buffet.

The place near the Margate is all redone on the outside. Has the food improved? The last time I went in there the food was barely edible. And I grew up on good old fashioned greasy pu-pu platters and pork fried rice.

P-T has good Chinese food

We've eaten at Peking-Tokyo a lot and I always have the Chinese. I would say it's above, not below, average. Never a complaint from me (which might have something to do with their MaiTai's).

I can't say too much about other Chinese food places other than the one in Alton (JP China) is also good, at least for your basic stuff. Thumbs up on their MaiTai's as well. ;)

jrc 07-17-2008 09:29 PM

I'll give it a try. Thanks MnM.

I visit JP China in Alton by boat. Nothing like $100 in gas for Chinese run. Good servicable food, nothing fancy.

Peking Tokyo is solid

Been there many time for both sushi and Chinese. Eat in and Take out. Their Sushi is ok but not very imaginative or diverse (and the avocados are never really ripe). But not a lot of other choice that I've found in the area. The Chinese is good but a little old fashioned.

JP China at the end of the bay has solid food as well (and very good duck dishes if you like that). We like the Mongolian Chicken.
