DOT provides info on NH roads

I got this link from today's Citizen. It's a map that shows current status of the roads around the state.

Thanks again!

I do not know about cars floating away at Lowe's in Gilford. My husband was there this AM when they announced that they were going to stop allowing people to enter/exit the store temporarily due to the flooding. My husband immediately left and saw the flood waters above the guard rails. That's alot of h2o! Happened in minutes!

Nadia's was completely surrounded by water ....I sure hope there was no damage.

Getting in and out of Walmart / Hannaford's lot this morning was memorable. Oh well, guess we won't have to worry about the spring lake level. Heard it was pretty bad around Alton / Barnstead and Farmington.

Alton to Rochester and Back

this morning going to work at 6:30ish, there was water across the road in Farmington where Spring St comes into Rte 11, just east of the New Durham - Farmington line. More of a puddle with very little water movement. Different story just west of the Walmart in Rochester on Rte 11. Starting around where the two model homes are in Framington, where the speed limit goes back up to 55, the traffic was at a crawl to the area of the used car dealers on the south side of the road just west of Walmart. Water running across the road, not deep, but moving fast in some areas. Actually witnessed a guy in a car going westbound, moving like the proverbial bat outta ...., hit the water, then hit his brakes, then hydroplaned off the road into the ditch, remaing rightside up, and did not appear to be injured (guy in a van behind him stopped, and was talking to him). Had water problems in Alton on the hill going from "uptown" down toward the bay where the Letter S road comes in. All the work they did last year stabilizing almost was for naught, and had to be re-rocked! Rand Hill road in Alton Bay, which takes you up to Alton Mt Rd, was flooded just below the "Bay Church", with the fire dept trying to pump it out. Further west on Rand Hill, the south side of the road is partially washed out. Thought I may have spend a night in Rochester, but was able to get out ok.

Wife was in Wolfeboro, and said there was washout damage where rte 28 narrows down going down to Weston Auto body, and also from Kingswood to Huggins.

All in all, lots of work for the state and local highway crews:( .

We only lost electricity from about noon until 2ish but remained without phone until around 11 p.m. and the cable was back this morning around eight. Alton Mt. Road re-opened around 2 a.m. according to the DPW worker but is only one lane in many places. The Frohock Brook was rushing over Alton Shores Road for most of the day and the boat ramp will need to be repaired again. Luckily the road didn't wash out. The back road to Gilmanton was also closed but Place's Mill Road was passable with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The Suncook River has closed White Oak Rd. over near Upper Suncook Lake. Many sections of Rt. 140 from Gilmanton Iron Works into Alton are reduced to one lane.

Here are a FEW PHOTOS

Raining still?

Is it still raining up there? How long is it expected to continue? I am about 2K miles away and was told yesterday I had 1.5 inches of water in my cellar. Just wondering if it will continue to rise.
Thanks!!

Light Rain

It's been raining lightly all day here in West Alton, occasionally mixing with snow and then changing back to rain. The forecast is for continued light rain through tomorrow.

offmycloud 04-17-2007 12:12 PM

Good!

Thank you DRH. I'm glad to hear it is not torrential. I couldn't figure it out from weather.com and if it is heavy for too long I get serious basement issues. I appreciate it.

Rt 28

Drove up to Wolfeboro from Hooksett on 28. This was late yesterday afternoon. In town hooksett 28 bypass and 3/28 near Merchant's was flooded and closed. Have to take Rt 3A to get around that mess. 5 other detours were in place the rest of the way up, never seen anything like it. The flooding and washouts were of a magnitude I could never have imagined. It's pretty bad. It was possible to make it through, but be aware it'll take some time. The damage to roads is pretty extensive in places so even if they are not yet marked be very careful out there.

Lake levels are very high and this is causing with the help of the wind lots of ice flows and no doubt some waterfront damage. It was pretty nasty out there, but no kidding, there was one die hard out there fishing in Wolfeboro bay in a little 12 foot boat. Ya know I love to fish, but not that much. For all those that own waterfront property, I hope your place survived in one piece! There is a whole lot of areas which seem to have sustained some form of damage.

Water is Rising

I was at Swains Lake today in Barrington and rescued 2 sections of a floating dock, that were already floating away, from one persons place. They are at Marco Is Fl -some have it tough.:D
At my buddie's place I had to rescue the gang plank for the dock, move two dock sections further away from the "new waters edge" and secure the non floating section so it would stay put even thought it was mired in sand from the beach.
I have to go back with someone in the next few days and move the pontoon boat , which had been completely out of the water, to the neighbors perminant dock before it floats away from its 18" tie down stakes.
The beach at my buddies is being eroded away ---- but at least he will now have a sandy bottom to step on.

This weather is causing problems everywhere on all the NH lakes.

WINDinmySOCKIES 04-17-2007 09:08 PM

I don't know who to credit, but , I would like to thank the men and women who are working hard to restore the roadways for everyone. Although I wish it were so, my primary home is not in NH yet! I can tell you that where I live the road crews do not compare!! I am always impressed at the job these workers do getting roads repaired. They have certainly have had quite a bit of work this past year. We have damaged roads here..(major ones that have remained detoured and out of commission for months), and construction projects that take years. So .. THANK YOU!!:)

Route 28 - Alton

I saw a picture yesterday of Route 28 in Alton - south of the rotary. It looked like the road had essentially been washed away. Does anyone know if route 28 is open?

thanks
