Brown Snout and Coe House
Lots happening at the Coe House over the weekend: new sign which is lovely, running of the kitchen fans, workmen all over the place. Any idea when it will open? I am thinking they want to do by Memorial Day.
Also, lots of work going on at what was Dillinger's, now called the Brown Snout Tavern on Route 25 in Moultonboro. Although that's not the most alluring name, the exterior of the building is looking good, new sign is pretty. They are probably aiming for Memorial Day weekend also. Then, there is some activity at the little place just up the street from Gilligan's, it used to be a seafood restaurant, but never did big business. Now under new management, don't know what is going to happen there. Anybody have any info they can share? How about it SAMIAM? |
Correction
The former Dillingers is the Black Snout, not the Brown Snout

Has anyone tried The Coe House or the Black Snout yet? Early reviews?

Just saw your post,DM....guess I've been asleep at the wheel.Yes there is a lot going on at the Coe House .The new owners have completely redecorated and built an additional bar downstairs. It is really beautiful. They had a "soft opening" last sunday night. In other words they kind of snuck the doors open without any fanfare in order to give the staff some practice without being overwhelmed. We went there that night and it was wonderful....I know I'm prejudiced but our party had four seperate entree's and they were cooked perfectly and presented well. What did surprize me,though was the staff.John seems to have the knack of attracting really professional and qualified people. It was quite busy that night and they all acted as though they'd worked there for years.Service was outstanding.Probably not fair of me to do a review because they are also friends so I'll leave that to others, but I would say that it is less formal than when we ran it and they also have a pub menu, served in either of the two bars only.I haven't seen it yet,but understand you can actually get a burger, fish'n chips and other tavern fare.
I believe they are now open 7 nights |
what are they specializing in for food

Black Snout
The Black Snout is also open. They may want to work out their bugs before the Memorial Day weekend too. Supposedly, the name comes from a mountain peak in the Ossippee Range, so it really isn't just a random name.

Not sure about the specialty. Our group had filet mignon, pan seared tuna, duck and rack of lamb.all we outstanding.I also had hazelnut crusted sea scallops for an appitizer and they were the best I've ever had.I noticed that they have a prime, dry aged sirloin. Will definately try it on my next visit.

Thanks for the reviews
Thanks SAM. Will be going to the Coe House to try it out, sounds good. I know they've been working extremely long hours to get it going.
We did go to the Black Snout for lunch over the weekend, and it was quite good. Our waitress was extremely nice and quite efficient. Will go back. |
Where is Coe House?

Coe House
I tried Coe House last night. Sat in the bar and watched the Red Sox. I highly recommend the Crab "tots" for an appetizer and the Pot De Creme for dessert!

Coe House 5-19
Had an excellent dinner at the Coe House tonight. My wife loved her the shrimp chowder and my fried artichokes appetizer were outstanding. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our entrees as well (halibut, pork loin, rack of lamb and statler chicken). Alas, no room for dessert.
Highly recommend it! |
Thumbs Up
Big thumbs up to the new Coe House. Food was great, service was attentive and the décor was well done. We will be regulars.

children?
Are they still suggesting that "only well-behaved children" may dine? (that should be the case everywhere), but i was wondering if the new operation was still posting this... which I am sure most take to mean that the establishment really is for adult clientele only.

Coe House-Kids
I think the new owners are more kid-friendly. They have a small kids menu available.
I took my 2 kids there on Friday and we had a great meal with great service. Smitty1 |
desserts
Does anyone know who is doing their desserts????

Black Snout
Thought I would chime in on the Black Snout here. I have had several meals there this year and the food is always excellent. I always sit in at the Bar, so I can't speak for the service in the resturant. However the Bartenders are always prompt and pay great attention to the customers.
Last I want to give them a big thumbs up for there guest relations this past weekend with the ALCS. Having just a simple camp I have no TV, so I depend on local establishments being open when I want to watch a game. On both Saturday and Sunday night I want to The Black Snout and had dinner, and started watching the game. Both nights I was expecting to have to leave after the first inning or two because they where to close at 9. However much to my and many other patrons enjoyment they kept things open both nights, until the crowd disipated and I was just about the only on left. I did miss a couple of innings on Saturday, and had to run to another establishment on Sunday to catch the end. But I thought it was very nice of them not to slam the door shut at nine (their posted closing time) and start asking people to leave, as I have had done at other resturant bars....... Both nights they commented to me that closing time was going to be dictated by how many people came in to watch the game...... |
Black Snout Closed
According to local sources, Black Snout closed this past week. Vendors were removing their equipment/supplies. I don't know if it is for the winter or permanately. Anyone else here about this?

Black Snout Closed
I was planning on going to the Black Snout yesterday, with some friends. I was very surprised when we pulled up. There was not a car in the lot and their sign out front just said CLOSED. I too would love to know if this is just a seasonal thing or if it's permanent.
