20th Annual J-Jamboree

This year will be the 20th running of the J-Jamboree on Lake Winnipesaukee. Come and enjoy the best there is in J/80 One Design Racing. With upwards of 25 boats expected, it should once again be the premiere event on this year’s Northeast Circuit. Racing will be on the main portion of Lake Winnipesaukee, about 1.5 miles from regatta headquarters at Fay’s Boat Yard. There is a three mile diameter area, known as The Broads, which provides 360 degrees of race course coverage. It’s surrounded in the distance by the foothills of three mountain ranges giving racers the added challenge of frequent wind shifts, not to mention some of the most beautiful backdrops to sail in.

You can find all you need to know about registering, getting directions, and finding housing on the J-Jamboree web site.

Interested in participating, but don't have a ride?
Crew - we may be able to hook you up with a boat needing crew
Skippers - there may be the possibility of chartering a local boat for the event.

Racing is a LOT of fun. The biggest boat I've raced is a 420, but it's all more or less the same thing: before the start, you have boats flying around inches from each other, and once it starts, all the boats beat upwind and converge at one mark, then head downwind. From there on it's always fun to watch (or participate in) the rounding of the mark(s). Lots of screaming (and cursing:rolleye2: ).

Racing is a blast..(especially if there is wind:rolleye2: )I raced my old Pearson in a regatta for MS in Portland for a couple of years. What a rush.
The J boats are serious racers and very tenatious and competitive. Very much fun to watch.

buoy room!!!

We used to race on Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield MA. We watch the J-boats off of Welch through our binoc's. Makes me envious:rolleye1: It is a lot of fun both to watch and be in.

Same day as forum fest

:( This sounds like real fun.Just got a sailboat (sailfish 1969 vintage had one when I was young) and I'm learning to sail again.I would learn a lot from this experience. To bad it interferes with forum fest.

In the Way

Every year I end up in the way. A couple of years ago, one boat ended up about 10 feet from my stern. My turtle boat doesn't move as fast as a J boat, but I love it!
