Huzzah!

As of 11:36 AM, I am now a resident of the lakes region. However, through my 16 years of experiences up north, I still have a few questions that would help clear things up once I am mobilized.

1. Does anyone know of a decent bowling alley (candlepin or regular) that happens to not be Funspot's? I wouldn't mind going there, but the prices are fairly ridiculous at tourist traps like Funspot.

2. Does anyone know of a music store of any kind? I would like to know if there is a store that sells CDs, Cassettes, Vinyl, etc. I am also interested in finding a guitar shop that could sell parts like strings and whatnot (for bass).

If anyone could answer these questions, I would be happy for quite a long time.

For a music store, try Greenlaw's in downtown Laconia.

For bowling try Styx Entertainment right in Meredith - north of the lights just past the Ford Dealer. Also I second the vote for Greenlaws - you'll love the place. And where ever you find yourself - WELCOME to the neighborhood!

Thank you!

Much appreciation towards the reccomendations. I've only been in the main region of Laconia a few times. We've mainly stayed towards the Weirs, but now that I have a summer up there on my hands, it's time for some exploring!

Music Store

I would recommend the Vintage Fret Shop in Ashland. They have a large variety of all fretted instruments. I thought the service was also good. Here is their web site. http://www.vintagefret.com/index.html. Do you play? What kind of guitar do you have?

The Funspot bowling prices are the going rate now for places with computer score and kid bumpers. We have some relatives in Mass. who are paying $4.00 per string for bowling! Many years ago we had two candlepin bowling alleys in Weirs Beach. They are both gone now with the first one going in the early 70's and the last in the mid 1990's.

How About Pin Boys!

How many remember the Inn in Alton Bay that burned in the 60's? The lot is still vacant to this day. They had a small movie theater in the Inn too.

Well, they had a single lane that had to have a pin boy in the building to the left of the Inn. It is now a cottage. Can't remember when it closed but I would guess about 60 - 61. :D

I am not that far over the hill but far enough to remember that stuff. ;)

I play bass, a Fender Jazz and an Upright-- as well as flute and piccolo. I'm a pretty musical person. My favorite store down here is Mr. C's. The repairman is extremely nice whenever I come in for a setup.

As for bowling, I sometimes go to a candlepin alley that charges 2 dollars a game. Are there any alleys open for late night bolwing? There are a few in Mass that are open to midnight or 1. That would be a fun experience.

Thanks again!

OAKBIRCH Inn

Thanks for remembering the name as I could not. I went to theater once and along with the mice  running by but it was an interesting place. It had lost its luster but still gave you an idea of the memory of days gone by.

It is amazing that nothing has been built there since the fire.
