Took the boat out for the final voyage today. The lake looked like a holiday weekend in the Summer. It was the most crowded day I saw all season. Sure was nice though. Boat's all Winterized now and ready for a long nap:(

Was like a summer Saturday! Great day to be out there. Hope to get out there tomorrow, Monday, then at least one day next weekend before the bowrider goes into hibernation for a (too) long winter's nap.

Even the Mount had many many people on board, as it cruised along today. Must be all those buses of leaf peeping tourists who get discounted tickets. All season long, the Mount looked like a boat empty of passengers what with its' increased pricey tickets.

Here's looking forward to the Halloween costume party on the Mount. It likes to end the season with a big splash!

I couldn't believe all the people I saw swimming yesterday and late this morning! Lot's of jet skiers and tubers too.

We also were out today for our last day of the season and were surprised at the number of boats out. It really did seem like a summer day - traffic and weather wise. A great way to wrap up our first season of boating.

Choose the Right Day
 

Watching the weather thursday night I relized that a day on the lake was going to happen. I felt that alot of other people would take advantage of it also. Not wanting to deal with traffic going north on Saturday morning, that made the decision to close the shop doors Friday and head to the lake. It was a perfect day, maybe the last day if another good weather day doesn't come around before November. No real traffic going north on 93 and light boat traffic on the lake. Hooked up with a old friend that had not taken the time to boat with us this summer. He agreed that we could work some other time but not on Friday. Glad that I took the time to enjoy that beautiful lake and region. Wish it could be everyday and with alittle luck maybe someday it will be.:)

I really hope you were not making reference to the last years Halloween Mount cruise. If you were that was an absolutely deplorable thing to say.

Sunday Afternoon....
 

.....and after an iffy start, the Sunday afternoon weather has turned out to be fantastic! Have I ever seen so many sailboats on the broads before off of Gilford? (I don't think so!) Was there a sailboat regatta?

Saturday was great on the lake until it clouded up later. Loved seeing all the sail boats. But my trip was to do work at a friends island property. So we did not get to spend too much time on the lake. Had to cover the back hoe and get the water circulator in and running etc. Hopefully next year it will be the cottage too.

While working we had a parade of classic boats pass by. I was sorry I did not have my camera with me. Some really nice boats came by including the Marriott's cruiser and a racing boat as well as Chris Crafts etc.

To add misery to the day I lost my prescription sunglasses :( when putting in the circulator. No bathing suit with me and the water was too deep for the net so next year I will retrieve them.

There's also the birthday suit...:eek: :D

Steveo, I say this with some reservation but if you had simply ignored the post from FLL like the two posters before you fewer feathers would have been ruffled. If the majority of members on this forum decide not to react to the inflammatory comments of those in the minority, I suspect that the minority will remain silent. Like they say, if the antagonist doesn't get the attention/response that they are desperately seeking they cease to be the antagonist.

Small items such as prescription sunglasses (with polycarbonate lenses) weigh a fraction of their normal weight when submerged. The slightest motion will cause them to skitter away: even a brief overnight delay for sunlight has caused items to disappear on me.

And even if you successfully recover them next year, any metal parts on those sunglasses may not be operable by Spring. This lake water—for whatever reason—has a very corrosive effect on most metals.

If you need an excuse to return to the lake sooner than later, I hope I've provided one! :)

Fatlazyless...what would have made you think that post would be funny. I love a sarcastic joke as much as anyone...LOVE THEM. But when a death is involved.....man, pal, draw the line!

Not say I am siding with him, but he has not even responded to someone first comment about that, maybe he put his foot in his mouth by mistake, maybe not, but he should make his attentions known. He could of made the relation with the Mt being in water with a big splash, like you would say a pool party or a lake house party would be a splash. That is how I took it at first until everyone chimed in, so we never know but he might have to explain himself here.

I am with you Sa Meredith I love all jokes no matter the subject as long as they make me laugh, nothing tends to bother me in a joke

Lets also remember its our own FLL, who just a few months ago was everyone's hero for helping a friend in need. Perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sat morning I watched them dismantle the neighbors dock, and looked at my boat on the mooring. After awhile I said I want my boat. I had to go into the water to get it, or do a lot of work with a rowboat. Just Sold, should have gone skinny dipping to get his glasses. The water was about the same tempature as the 4th of July. I went swimming a couple of times this weekend it was great. two more weeks and I start to hybernate and count the days till Mothers Day. By the way why do they call it mothers day when its boat launching day?:emb:

Maybe it was double entendre or maybe he innocently meant SPLASH as in Halloween Bash. The Mounts Halloween bash fits the bold-ed definition above. Maybe a poor choice of words or maybe some readers are giving too much thought to each word. Or maybe a tasteless joke. Are YOU sure you know what he meant to say?

I am all for giving anyone a break. But if FLL was "misinterpreted" why has he not replied to that fact. Sorry to be a jerk about this but I found his response to be cruel and if he meant something else he should have explained his comments. I will be the first to offer my apologize if I am wrong, why hasn't he done the same.

When factoring in FLL's past posts,there is generally an infammatory edge to them.I don't doubt at all that he was making a joke.I will however cut him some slack.Although very incensetive as I look back,I did laugh when I first read it.

WOW. I think a lot of us have a little to much time on our hands.

Does FLL have a habit of "questionable posts". Sure, just like we all do. Do we allways see eye to eye with him? Nope. Is he a horrible deplorable son of a goat who spends his free time clubbing baby seals? Most likely not.

I actually thought nothing of his comments until reading Steveo's post, so its a matter of interpertation. Maybe FLL's lack of response is due to him not wanting to be misinterperted again. Maybe hes got something better to do. Does it really matter?

The jury is still out on this one... :laugh: I can say that his neighbor fits the above description after she chewed me last winter for ruining "her ice" with the airboat when I stopped in to visit FLL one day.

I don't think there is any doubt that it was his typical tongue in cheek humor. Although some may think it was a bit morbid or over the edge, it still was somewhat funny. I chuckled. Give the guy a break and move on, otherwise it is going to be a long winter!

Isn’t it the truth! Little objects sure do skitter away quite easily and far! Last fall our son lost his inexpensive sunglasses and found them in August. Surprisingly they were not corroded at all. Unfortunately he lost them a week later when he jumped into the lake from the boat. They are way too deep to retrieve them. Good thing they were cheap! :laugh:

Sorry to hear about your glasses JS. If you had called, I would have donned the wetsuit to get them for you. Now it is getting a bit too chilly for me. Next spring sounds like a plan.

Many of us took advantage of the wonderful weather Saturday to go out on the boat. Hopefully we get another couple of weekends just like it! Rain during the week, because we need it and beautiful, calm weekends would be perfect. I’m sad the season is almost over. :(

Try using an elastic cord thingy that attaches to each side of the glasses. This is usually not a tight fit and therefore comfortable, behind the head. To this, attach some foam rubber type key floats (Boat Shows are a great place to acquire these - advertisement item). Try in shallow water for bouyancy ability - reads: glasses stay near surface, within reach, when fall off wearer.

You could try one of these: an Eyeglass Cord - Retainer - Floater...

RG I know you would have helped out but the neighbor, female, was reading on her dock so a skinny dip:eek: or in skivies:eek: was not what I thought I should do at the time. It would have been a great intro though.

The bubbler definately covered the glasses with silt so it will be fun locating them in the spring. 5+ feet deep now and close to 7' in the spring.

What struck me the most from the spate of stories and obituaries was a comment from an unnamed marina employee in the LaDa Sun. "His wife has been walking back and forth along the road by the lake for months, scanning the water through binoculars, looking for any sign of him. So, at least his resurfacing may bring her some solace."

As I understand, falling from a boat into cold water triggers an automatic gasp for air, except you are already under water, so you get water in your lungs and quickly drown. So, if the situation ever happens to anyone, maybe try keeping one's mouth closed and holding it closed with a hand until you resurface.

No ill will intended by me, and I'm sorry for his accidental drowning. It can happen to anyone who goes out on a boat.
