Upholstery tear

I have a small tear in the upholstery in my boat. Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing this? Is there a patch available? Thanks in advance

They Do make repair kits for vinyl. However I am not sure that I have ever seen any specifically for th Marine enviorment. However even if it was a marine grade fix kit, I would give it a try before re-upholestering. Last depending on how the upholestery is made it maybe be easy enough for someone in the business to just replace the section of material that has the rip in it.......

Irwin Marine fixed a small hole in a seat on my bow-rider. It looked good and held up for a few years and then I sold the boat.

The only sour part: they told me it only took a few minutes to fix but had to charge me for a full hour of labor. Around $90 at the time. So save up all you repairs and get them done at one time.

I have seen a van that advertises mobile vinyl and leather repairs. The company is called fibernew. I don't have any first hand knowledge, but it may be worth looking into.

thanks for all the help - this should give me a good start, unfortunately the boat is safely wrapped up for the winter... First project for the spring!

lfm, thanks for the tip on fibrenew, I have a tear in my back cover to my boat.

LI or others, could you give some suggestions on who is good and reasonable priced for upholstery. My sister-in-law has a pontoon boat the mice got at. Needs to have all the seats done.

Thanks Dave M

Dave,

Because I got rid of the boat I never had the upholstery work done so I don't have any knowledge anybodys work. However on a pontoon boat I would almost consider the replacing the seats in whole..... I know several years back we replaced the seats in a boat, and we saved several hundred dollars by just buying new seats and bases verse having the old seats recovered.
But that all depends on whether your Sister-in-law is up to doing the work herself too.... Anyways just an idea I thought I would pass on....

If you want to get an idea how much new seats would cost, check out Overtons.

If you take it to a car dealer they probably have a guy that they use to fix leather seats. Especially at the higher end places aka Land Rover, Porsche, Lexus....

Use the Red Green method

Duck tape the Handyman's Secret Weapon!:D

There are vinyl repair kits available but depending on the age and shape of the boat it may be better to leave it to the pros.
