Buckey's
and Buckey's is located where.........
|
Route 109 in Moultonborough just before Skelley's Convenience Store. On the right headed toward Wolfeboro.
It is a nice place with great people, a good menu and a great atmosphere. Their menu has expanded with their expansion last - more fried stuff. I would like to see a little more on the menu along with an expanded wine list. I like being able to get a good glass or bottle with dinner (like at Canoe for example) |
Buckeys dining
Realy enjoyed food and drink at Buckeys Saturday evening.
Manhattans were great, as was the Haddock and the Ribs. You have to have a hearty appetite with the full rack of ribs. Brought half the rack home and enjoyed while watching the Patriots win. Prices a lot more reasonable than the Canoe. |
Does Buckey's have a web site?
I am curious as to what their menu looks like. Do they have a web site?
|
I ate at Buckey's before Christmas, inquired whether the haddock was fresh, the waiter told me it was "fresh before it was frozen". I opted for the Chicken dish instead, was OK. Beer was very good.

You are never going to get the best food at Buckey's but that isn't the product they sell. Rather, they serve very good food (pub type), at modest prices in an excellent atmosphere. The wait staff is pleasant, which rounds out the mix. |
Frozen Fish
ITD
You didn't mention if the chicken you ordered instead of the haddock had also been previously frozen? The way they flash freeze seafood these days, I bet you never would have known it was frozen if you didn't ask. I think you would be surprised at how many places do not serve fresh fish especially this time of year. Won't be long before Bart's Seafood down the street will be opening if you crave fresh seafood. You will have to cook it yourself. |
We have a friend who had a great restaurant in Maine, his specialty was seafood. He always bought his haddock that was caught and instantly frozen on the boat. He said that was the freshest way to get it. Maybe Samiam has thoughts on this?

Web site?
After I asked if Buckey's had a web site, Dan responded that they did. I tried both Buckey's.net and .com with no success. Is there any way to see their menu?

I can deal with frozen chicken, I refuse to eat frozen haddock around here, doesn't matter how you froze it, it's not as good. That being said, as secondcurve said, it is a good pub style place with friendly people. I'd go back. |
Tis,your friend from Maine is right.Let's say the fresh haddock is caught on Monday, iced down on the boat for several days, then goes to the dock for auction, then the processing houses.then the wholesalers and finally gets delivered to the stores and restaurants where it may remain for several more days until sold....Some "fresh" fish is well over a week old when it arrives at the store or served to you in a restaurant.
On the other hand, fish frozen at sea is cleaned, filleted and frozen within hours of being caught and arrives at retail stores in perfect condition. I would only buy fresh haddock if it came from a "day boat"...and those are few, since it takes up to a week to catch the limit. I'm sure some will disagree, but that's my humble opinion. |

Sam, that is exactly what he said! You could be him speaking! And his fish was always the best! Glad to hear you agree. I don't think your opinion should be considered humble. I think you should know.

Well, I certainly would be up for fish restaraunt crawl this summer to compare, fresh frozen vs. fresh haddock....:D

I was in Buckey's tonight and they had notices posted that as of 3-15-2008 they will begin serving breakfast on Sat, Sun, Monday from 6-11. I am not much of a breakfast eater, but the few times that I have waited in line at the Village Kitchen (Country Cooking) I had hoped someone would do something in the form of competition.
I hope it is as good as their other meals are! John |
