Log Cabin Siding
Anyone have any experience with log cabin siding? We need to side the cottage and I'm thinking in this direction.
thanks for any input |
We put log siding on our cottage/house last Fall. It looks great.
Feel free to PM me with questions. Smitty1 |
Interesting topic
It would be nice if this topic continued on the forum as I am interested in the questions and answers as well.
Thanks IG |
Many of the log home companies will sell log siding as well. With todays exchange rate of almost 1:1 with the Canadian dollar there probably are no serious deals to be had, although the cost of the lumber itself is cheaper in Canada.
Try Aunden Rae at Riverbend Log Homes, 800-561-3000. His material ships from New Brunswick, but if he has a kit coming this way you could probably piggy-back the load and get it delivered to NH for almost nothing. Just figure out the style and linear footage you will need, or the square footage of each face of the house and he can quote you. |
Smitty in the spirit of the forum (for IG)
What material is your siding, pine, spruce ?? What did you stain (or poly) it with and how do you see maintenance in the future. Also, did you install yourself? If so, did the process move along OK Do you face nail it or is it like T&G Thanks for your input !! |
Middleton Lumber for log cabin siding...
An excellent local source of the siding is Middleton Lumber/Diprizio Pine, just a hop & skip over in Middleton. They are part of the LaValley Company located at that location, with much of the inventory made right here locally.
These folks are friendly, knowledgable and great to do business with...whether you are a small customer, hobbyist or contractor. I have used them for many years. I'd give'em a call or stop by the showroom! :) |
Hi Everyone
Here are my details I went with spruce log siding. It was milled at RP Williams in Bristol, NH I had a contractor do the outside work. MY brother and I installed it inside my screen porch. It was toungue and groove and worked very nicely It went on top of the orginal T-11 siding. For stain I used Weatherseal (Rustic Pine) http://www.continentalprod.com/loghome/wseal/wseal.htm It is a stain/sealer. I put one coat on in the Fall and will do a 2nd in the Spring. I think I answered all the questions? Anything else let me know. Smitty |
Thanks Smitty !

Log siding....
Building a log home on Hermit Cove.....after attending countless log home shows in the past 15 years we settled on highly recommended Sashco (Colorado company) 'Transformation' stain on the pine logs....two coats and it wears like iron and has an impressive appearance....any questions, contact me.

This could be a great thread that could benefit from photos????? I'd love to see examples of this siding in photos.
Great topic. |
Here are before and after shots of my chalet/cabin. The project included adding a screen porch with an office above it, a new roof, and the log siding.

It is not in Suissevale

I originally had plans and a quote done for a log shed to match my house, but the manufacturer does not have any other loads coming to NH any time soon and it is not cost effective to have it hauled from Canada alone. |
In November 2007 I paid .71 per foot plus a $75 milling set up charge.

I recommend cutting out the middle man and buy directly from the mill.
http://www.merrimacloghomes.com/ Cut, milled and delivered locally. At the current fuel prices, this should make a difference. |
There is a vinyl log siding (vinyllogsiding.com). The look of logs without the maintenance. Just another option. I know some may feel it is an oxymoron.

Land Ark Oils are fantastic for preserving wood siding like this as well.
