First time up this season
Ok, enough with the doom & gloom and squawking on some of the other threads. :rolleye1: The ice is out, and we can all start enjoying our beautiful lake again. :D Maybe we can raise the happiness level here a bit by sharing our first visits for the season.
We arrived late morning, grabbed a couple of subs at Meredith station, and had lunch aboard our boat. The air was a bit cool, but it was nice and warm under the canvas. :) We didn't get out on the lake today, but spent the afternoon getting the boat ready for the season. Everything started up perfectly, not much cleaning was needed, and we're now good to go for the Summer. Had dinner at Karen and Barry's, and Barry's lasagna was as good as I remered it being! :D We're back, and life is good!!!!!!! :D :D :D Silver Duck |
Drove up on Friday am. Registered the boats at Heath's in Center Harbor. Picked up the Whaler from Goodhue in Moultonboro, headed down to Harilla and launched the Whaler (with a little help from some kind strangers). Loaded up the boat and headed out to Cow. My neighbors were already there so he helped me put in the docks. Pretty easy cuz they are the aluminum crank up kind. After that I put in the water line..... In record time might I add!!! Cleaned up around the outside of the house, lots of branches and debris. Went to the neighbors for steaks and martinis, had one too many and when my head hit the pillow I was out. Woke up early picked up the wife and kids at Harilla. Had a great day with them and at 6pm a bunch of Cow and Little Bear Islanders met in Orchard Cove for a toast to kick off the season. Now I'm sitting inside with a nice warm fire going in the fireplace and loving life! Great kickoff weekend!!!!!

Came up for the weekend. We have a townhouse at Sundown nears Weirs Beach. Everybody's getting their places ready for the season. Weather was beautiful. Took our first couple of walks on Weirs Beach -- and saw two loons about where the Mount docks! They were simply beautiful. They couldn't have been more than twenty or thirty feet away from us! What a start to the season! And we welcomed back the Dunkin Donuts gang at Weirs for their grand opening. All seems well with the world. We spent Friday night at Mill Falls doing a little shopping -- of course. Spent a little bit of money. The work on the Lobster Pound is proceeding smoothly. And we're glad to hear Peppers got the okay from the Planning Board. Do I assume correctly that the Weirs Beach sign won't be put on until Memorial Day? Seems like something is missing with it not being on. People were actually sunning Saturday and Sunday on the beach. Bring on summer!

also opened up the house this weekend. lot's of leaves and pine needles but great weather to work outside. we had dinner at Woodshed on Friday and Kevin's on Saturday. Both were excellent as usual--- at least for us. Great summer ahead

Came up yesterday and stopped at The Greenside in Tilton for breakfast - was great as usual.....spent the day raking tons of leaves, filling in remaining mole holes, and shoveling the remaining snow from our lawn - was a perfect day for working outside!!
We retired to the deck with a couple of beers watching the boats go by and listening to the waves against the shoreline - I'd almost forgotten about that sound!! Grilled a couple sausages and enjoyed them with a nice bottle of wine....threw a log in the fireplace - may be the last time this Spring. I don't even mind the rain too much this morning - it's just great seeing open water finally instead of ice out there! :) |
Phoenix...
You should've stopped in the lounge at the shed on Friday to see me!!!:)
Welcome back everyone. The weather isn't great, but we sure need this rain. |
Boo Hoo Hoo
Just back in Pennsylvania from opening the cottage. Nice Trip. Weather wonderful (except for last nights breeze). Be back soon.
|
Welcome Back!
Glad to have all of you returning again this year. I miss you when you're gone. I've lived in resort areas all my life and I really enjoy having the summer people here. For me, it's a great feeling to be living in an area where everyone wants to come to vacation.
I'll be taking the Rag Top out of winter storage on Tuesday. Having it inspected on Wednesday, and detailed on Thursday. Bring on summer! We are going to wait a bit before launching the boat, tho. Quayside's opening day is May 10th. Wishing everyone the kind of summer they are hoping for! |
Great Reading...
I'm getting antzy to get up there, but I have enjoyed reading everyone's stories on their first trip up! Keep 'em comming - I can't wait to get there!!
:D |
This was our first weekend back on the lake. I dropped the first boat in the water on Friday and brought the troops up on Saturday for the night. We brought a bunch of people up so the cleanup and setup went rather quickly.
It was definitely chilly with the wind coming off the lake but well worth it. The camp fire was not enough to keep us warm in the evening so we mainly stayed inside where the fireplace was a bit more comfortable. Lots of food, drinks, card games and conversation. Sunday was rather raw, no fishing for the kids which made my daughter quite angry. Her new "rocket rod" will have to wait one more week. One more weekend of commitments and we will be back to staying 3+ nights a week. It felt SOOOO good to be back! Note to self: Next time don't forget the power cords for the Directv boxes, otherwise you may face a mutiny from the underage crew! |
Opening day
Opened our place on Saturday, its was nice to be back on the island.
Water is in and running and was able to get the dock in with the help of a dry suit. We enjoyed coffee on the dock Sunday morning before the rain started and even got a visit from a couple of loons. |
A couple of Loons
... if you're talking about us ... we were there on Saturday, remember?
If i'd know there that many people already on the island, I would heve brought more beer! |
My 1st time up there this summer wont be til July 13th but we got a plan set up lol, leave here 530am ( NYC) get to Laconia by 1045 go to Hannaford for water and snacks then to Sawyers for Lunch then to the hotel check in then to the boardwalk to see the beautiful lake and be like we made it for another yr then we end our 1st nite with dinner at T bones then ice cream to finish it off. Great idea...
Silver Duck...great idea for a thread. Maybe a nice break from all the talk of poor economic times, and businesses closing, island camp break ins, etc., etc...
Sadly, I can't post my "first time" story until the weekend of the 16th. Soon enough though. And lastly, following up on a thread from last week, someone really should run with the idea of starting a "Shared Ride" section on this board. |
It's a Wonderful Thread..............
:banana:Silver Duck, I love your thread! What a happy, positive thought you had, and thank you! Now I can't wait to read the replies.............
|
I've Seconded That!
Ooops, sorry, sa........... I wasn't trying to step on your thought about this thread. I'll bet you can't wait until the 16th (of May? I hope for you?) to be up there......... I only live 1 1/2 hours away and "first time up" isn't even on the calendar yet, danged baseball season! :emb: It sure is my thoughts though, now more than ever since I've read the thread!

Glad to have everyone starting back

I was going to write a story about our 6 mile commute to our "summer" place.. but, I'd probably get thrown off the site. With the price of gas, it's a major commitment for folks to travel so far to get ot the lake. Welcome Back ! We opened the place in LSP last week. Lots of raking and cleaning up but taking a walk to the beach, and watching the whole area "wake up" from winter is a great pleasure. :look: |
