Just Plane Loopy
Have you seen the plane that flies over the lake that seems to enjoy loops and rolls? It is fascinating and yet scary to watch. The plane heads into what looks like a loop and as it is going straight up, it stops in mid-air and then falls back ending in a roll. How dangerous is it to do these kinds of stunts? Is it just plain loopy? Has anyone snapped any pictures yet?

RE: Just Plane Loopy
I saw him last year doing the same. Seems very competent and fascinating to watch - looks like he's having a great time!

This man is quite a pilot. I spoke with him last year a couple of times at the airport. He just loves flying. Enjoy the free show!:coolsm:

It's called a tailslide. It's more risky than straight and level flight...
I have seen Sean Tucker perform that stunt and get to over 100 MPH backwards. His shows are breathtaking (literally). He does a tailslide at around 1:40 in this video and a truly impressive one again at around 3:20 (might be the same one, from a different angle). You can tell he's going backward as he falls through his smoke. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2CvqiEiHd2E&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2CvqiEiHd2E&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |
Odd -- we have one here in Central Mass as well, perhaps it's the same individual???
Locally we've dubbed him the "Red Baron" as he is usually (but not always) in a Bi-Plane. |
Phantom, maybe you are thinking of this one http://www.collingsfoundation.org/ma_fokkerdr1.htm
They are based in Stow MA. They just had their father's day weekend celebration, Although I didnt' see that particular plane we did get to see from our central ma home the http://www.collingsfoundation.org/ma_at-6ftexan.htm flying overhead several times that weekend. The Collings Foundation collection is the same group that brings the B17 and the Wings of Freedom tour to NH. http://collingsfoundation.org/menu.htm |
If he's going straight up till it stops he's bringing it into a "stall" nerve-wrenching stuff!
