Old Folded Map
Recently I have come into possession of an old 1968 – 1969 map of the Central Lakes Region. It is very nice because there is a lot of information that is absent on the current maps. My question: Does anyone know if there is a way to get the fold lines out of it for framing?
Thanks. |
A framing shop should be able to help you out.
Many framing shops use a vacuum style press to dry mount onto a lightweight foam backing board. In the past, I have had wrinkled/folded items that were smoothed out in this way. The only drawback is that your item is now permanently glued to the backing board. I'd ask them anyway, as they probably have other (non-adhesive) ways to do it as well. If you want to do it yourself, I suppose large flat sheets of glass or plywood or something like that. Rob |
RG, When all the insanity of this week is over, I'll get in touch with my brother Myles. He's certified in the preservation of artifacts. He'll know for sure - and I'll pass the info on to you. :)

Thanks to both of you for the information. The map isn't very old, 1968 - 1969. There are so many things that are different on it and lots of things not on newer maps. The Back Bay in Wolfeboro is actually called Front Bay! Christmas Island is called Plummer Island. Many of the old camps are listed too. Definitely will study it more and compare it to more current maps. I find this very interesting.
