2008 foliage
Does anyone up on the lake and surrounding areas have any idea when the foliage may be coming. Outer staters coming and want to do the kancamagus (SP) and and other areas in that vacinity.:)

I'd put my money on the first and second weekend in October as the peak weekends for this area.
The sugar maples are already red - seems early this year. |

personal views
As I have said in other posts, I am coming up again this year for Leaf Peeping and relaxation the weekend of October 17-19. I was wondering if the wonderful people who live around the lake could give me a personal direct opinion as to the fall foliage around Winnipesaukee this year.
Is it running ahead of time, or about normal, or behind? I will come up and relax even if the foliage is not great, but would love it to be wonderful to view also. |
Columbus Day Weekend
Going by past years, we found that Columbus Day weekend is usually the best time for leaf peeping in the Lakes Region. The northern mountains may be a little past peak at this time but still not bad.

My personal uninformed opinion is that you will be slightly late, but it should still be beautiful. Unless, Kyle takes a jog west this weekend and blows the leaves off.
|
A lot will depend on the weather this weekend, especially if Kyle takes a more westward track and gives us some winds....
|
I second Columbus day weekend. You can also do the Sandwich fair and get a Sausauge with pepper and onions. Just leave one or two for me. :D

I got some answers to my own question as I'm here for a week and in many areas the color is full more especially in the swampy areas. Many dull colors yet there are some bright colors mixed in. I went 140 from Gilmanton Iron Works to Tilton and saw some great color even in the rain. Also route 11 going towards Rochester and 28 towards Pittsfield. I feel that it may not last till the holiday weekend at least not the largest part of it.:)
