Announcing Snake Eyes, the Rattlesnake IslandCam
Snake Eyes, the Rattlesnake IslandCam is now up and running. This webcam shows the condition of the broads from Rattlesnake Island.
This project was conceived a few years ago by my late husband. I have worked on it all spring to deliver it to the Winnipesaukee.com community. There are three main pages. The page at www.rattlesnakecam.com has an image updated every 30 minutes and some information about the website. www.rattlesnakecam.com/pictures.htm displays the latest three images with an updated image every 10 minutes. www.rattlesnakecam.com/lakecams.htm is a page with images from webcams around the lake. Most of these display the current image from those cams. Great thanks to Don Zimmer for the space to host this website and all the advice and to Don Hughes for all the help yesterday making a cable and installing the enclosure and camera in its permanent home, and all his advice. Enjoy, from Island Girl and Island Guy http://www.rattlesnakecam.com/IslandCam_00001.jpg |
Many Thanks!
IG --
Let me be the first here to say THANK YOU! I love and visit all the lake cams, habitually ;), but this one is now going to be my favorite, mainly because it features a dead-on shot of the beloved Ossipees, and is looking in the direction of our place on the Lake. What a phenomenal view. Thanks so much. Regards, gfe |
We're So Fortunate!
Our currrent issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine arrived this morning and the feature article is "Own a piece of Paradise".....about the scarcity of waterfront property in the USA and how difficult it is to find.... and afford.... this disappearing commodity. It mentioned places like South Padre Island, Texas, the coast of Maine, the Outer Banks of N.C.and many others. It made no mention of our beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. But what it did bring to mind is that we as owners and vacationers have a truly distinct advantage over those "other waterfront people". We have the ability to look out our windows, walk out our doors and see this exquisite body of water we call Winnipesaukee.....but wait....we have the ability to look at this thing called the WWW and see our lake 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We have the BEST websites of any body of water in our great land. We owe those people like Don Hughes, and Island Girl and Island Guy (God bless him) and all the others who at great expense and time give us a view of our lake....no matter where in the world we are. We say thank you to all the photograpers who take the time to submit their views of their lake home. And we log on and and give our thanks (or at least we should)............Thank you, Island Girl

Nice Job
Nice job IG. What a great view. I second Grant's comment about the Ossipee's since I'm just up the lake from him. I've taken the liberty of adding your webcam to the Wolfeboro Online list of webcams.

Great Job Island Girl
Great job and thanks from all of us who can only get to the lake once a year. Just looking at the cams makes Texas feel a little cooler! :)
|
Fantastic
Thank you for bringing Island guys vision to us. I am sure he would be very proud of your hard work and determination. :)
|
A sure winner
I commented on the website, but want to also comment here.
Usually snake eyes means a loser, but Island Guy certainly had a winning idea here. You have done a great job (with the help you've already acknowledged) in bringing his dream to fruitation. I am sure that Island Guy is looking down at this with a big smile and deep pride. It sure will make it easy to determine if we want to go out from West Alton. Thanks I.G. (both of you!!!!) Dave |
Thank You
Hi IG, I don't write often, but I'd just like to say "THANKS" for the island cam. That must've been a tremendous amount of work. It just shows exactly how much you care about your community and the boaters of Lake Winnipesaukee. And I for one, getting caught in 6 footers going across the broads, will definetly take a peak at your cam frequently. Again, Thank You, Jim

Snake Eyes
IG you have done a great job. The site is wonderful.
 It is a great tribute to your late husbands dream. I will enjoy checking the Broads from Rattlesnake before our weekly trek to the lake. Thank you again. |
Congratulations IG! It is great to have another webcam and it will be very useful to so many of us on the lake. Thanks for your hard work. I know it was not an easy thing to set up.
|
I goofed.
I sent Wolfeboroonline the wrong link for Snake Eyes. I've sent them a message to get it corrected. Sorry about that. :(
|
Thank you!
I must also also thank you for the new camera view. This will be another of our favorite views of the lake. What an awesome shot of the Ossipees! God bless you and God bless Island guy.
|
Thank You
Island Girl,
Quite simply - thank you. |
one more Thank You
I have to add my own thanks to IG, Don and Don. Good job, well done.
|
Add another "thanks" to the terrific trio. :D
|
Thank you
Thank you Island Girl. How nice to see the view up towards "my" corner of THE lake. During the long winter away from the lake I am sure I will be a frequent visitor to your camera. I truly appreciate all your efforts.
|
Awesome work Island Girl. I love looking at all these webcams when I can't be at the lake.
|
Thanks IG :)
|
Thanks IG
Very nice.
|
kunamola brought up an interesting question. Will this webcam be operational in the winter? I guess the same could be asked of the Bearcam too.
|
Winter Snake Eyes
It has always been the intent of Snake Eyes to show the conditions of the lake, including ice in and ice out. I will be leaving the webcam on for the winter. It remains to be seen if it continues to work. Other area webcams that are outdoors are doing just fine. I have no idea if the modem will continue to work in the extreme cold. Maybe I should test in in the freezer!
Thank you all for your kind words and positive comments about the new cam. I will be making minor adjustments this weekend so don't fret if it is down for an hour or so. Thanks for all your support. |
Winter BearCam
.
I will be trying to keep the BearCam up all year. However there are a lot of things that can go wrong that can't be fixed by remote control. Plus the power and phone can go off in the winter and not be fixed for a long time. Island living is interesting. Congratulations Island Girl on getting the camera up! You have a great view and the image is fantastic. I think you improved it since my first visit. |
Winter unknowns
I agree, BI, outages will certainly affect these remote cams. But we will do our best to keep them up.
I really want to see the ice form this winter on the broads! |
"A wonderful contribution, IG"!
People from all over the world will enjoy the cam as well! Thank you for all you do! |
I've beem on vacation, so this is belated. But thanks for the great site.

And things keep getting better...
I have used Snake eyes cam several times over the last couple of weeks to check out the weather coming out of West Alton into the Main Body of the Lake. How can things get any better?
Real Easy. Go to the web cam site, notice how nice the broads look (or not) and then scroll down past the last three images to the aerial picture of Rattlesnake taken by M. Costa. Click on the Picture and you will be taken to Intellicast.com. Scroll down and you will be looking at Live weather radar for the "Alton" area. And I mean live, as in up to date, unlike the previously satisfying Weather.com approximately 30 minute delay. So, Island Girl, you have given us fantastic photos, great insight with your postings (ditto for Island guy), recently shared Island Guy's dream with all of us, and now, maybe unknown to many, we have up to date weather radar at our fingertips. I now have on my links bar winni.com, R.I cam, & radar, all in a row, just a click away. Thanks IG. |
Too Quick for me
You found that real fast, Upthesaukee. I only put the link to the radar this week. Aside from looking at the beautiful view of the lake, my real goal is to check the weather and condition of the broads to ensure safe passage when I come out. I put the link there because I didn't want to scroll too far down to get the radar. Then I wondered how long it would take for someone to find it.
You are amazing! Good work! |
WOW! This is a webcam right?
|
I also like how you can display all of the web cams at one time to scan quickly which one you want to visit. Thanks so much Island Girl! SS
|
Morning Island Girl, I just sent your webcam site to my husband. He loves the idea of all the webcams on one page and the radar image. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful page. It's really neat to scan all the web cameras at once. Thanks again.
|
Great Job IG!!! Island Guy would be so proud!!!! :D
