Weirs Beach Sunday Morning
 

Does anyone know what the deal was at Weirs Beach early Sunday morning? We were cruising out the channel at about 8am heading to breakfast, as we cleared the bridge we saw hundreds maybe thousands of people filling the beach and park area. They had tents, gas grills, dinning canopies, jet skis tied up to the rocks... Looked as if they were digging in for the rest of the weekend. I did not see anything in the local papers about any special event at the Weirs - Any ideas?? :confused:

What you witnessed is an annual event. Perhaps you didn't check your calender that morning, but it was Independence Day, the Fourth of July! You can expect to see a repeat of that scene every year on that day. If you travel over by Ellacoya State Beach you'll see the same thing. At least this year we had Police coverage in the neighborhood, and the crowd was limited to a certain number, then the beach was closed. It was a whole different story last year, and I'm delighted that the voices of the community were heard and heeded, and things were tightened up this year. A much happier and safer holiday was had by all this year! :D
