New and Funky Shops. stores, retail
Hi there,
I am a freelance writer looking for new and funky retail stores that people who come to the Lake this summer won't want to miss. Please send me in the right direction.. I consider all suggestions and keep a file... |
There's some new, great little stores here in Alton...
1. Puppet Patter in Alton Bay - the owner is a professional ventriloquist and has been featured on national TV. She can special order puppets and has a wide assortment of them. She also sells toys and other trinkets but the puppets are great! 2. Sharon's Closet on Main St., Alton - it's a second-hand store but she also sells some new items (read: Coach purses!) and has some great styles. It's an upscale store with lots of fun accessories. |
Winnipesaukee Motorsports. A real old fashioned Family Owned Locally Operated Motorcycle Shop. 185 Waukewan St Meredith NH 03253 279-9059

Funky shops?
Weirs beach T-shirt shop - 3 for $10 !! In Meredith, walk up the hill towards the library - bait & tackle shop, thrift store, antique shops, wine & cheese shop, good Chinese restaurant. In Plymouth, nice shops across from the Common, including a terrific bakery on the corner.

Great Ideas

Stuff your own Collectible Animal
There is a store that opened up on the Winnipesaukee Pier last year called Winnis Woods. They feature products from Animaland. You can pick from over fifty animals , stuff them and dress them. Even create a Birth certificate. There is a large selection of animals from the lakes region that kids can make like moose, bear, otter, raccoon etc.

Seasonal phone numbers--ICK
Thanks for the replies. I have tried calling some of the places and the phone numbers are disconnected-any more suggestions?
Prefer: New places, or, old gems that have a new look, new line of product.. something that "people didn't know" about them. |
Still Early
A lot of the shops aren't open yet for the season and the phones are suspended. I sent you a private mail. Hope you received. If not let me know. I would like to talk further.

Wild Women Studio
Definitely check out Wild Women Studio on Church St in Laconia, across from the Spa. She just moved there and did an expansion. And hey, NOT just for women. Really cool things. Gorgeous and different jewelry; you will be unique in what you wear. Some clothing (new to her store). Incense, wall hangings, a bit of everything.

Grand Opening of HITCHING POST PRIMITIVES at Senter's Market in Center Harbor on May 23 and 24 "Primitive Country Accents for the Hearth and Home"
http://www.hitchingpostprimitives.com/053.JPG ...and in a similar vein check out RED CRANBERRIES in Alton Village (right on monument square) and THE GENERAL WOLFE on Rt. 28 approaching Wolfeboro near Kingswood High School for "funky" and vintage items for your camp. |
No-one has mentioned ETC on Rte 25 in Meredith- always fun and funky.

Surviving on Main Street, Meredith, like ETC and Mame's Restaurant!
Look at Hawkins opposite Post Office, some new incredible panorama photographic images. I remember seeing a fall scene in a field, another one of summer on Meredith Bay, and a view image from last August's Show House, with both moon rise and sun set in the panorama image. Someone should get them to do a panorama of the view at this year's show house on top of a hill overlooking Lake. I think called Meredith Bay Community. |
Artisan's New London
A bit south and west of the big lake is a smaller community with lots of eccletic shops and fun dining
Check our Artisan's New London www.artisansnewlondon.com we specialize in fun and funky! Also check out, MoRae Jewelers, Natalie's, Wire Whisk, Knit New London, Vessels and Jewels, The Lemon Twist, Seredipity, Larks & Nightengales, OMG Boutique, LisAnns, CB Coburn, Maison de Reverie, Gourmet Garden and a couple great local art galleries. For dining you have The Millstone, Peter Christians Tavern, Four Corners, Nonni's, Screwie Lewiez, Pizza Chef, Rockwells at the New London Inn, Ellies Cafe & Deli, Subway. Entertainment is weekly Friday night concerts on the town green. Gnu's of Gnu London on exhibit from Memorial Day through Labor Day (gnusofgnulondon.org) and the New London Barn Playhouse with weekly live theatre performances throughout the summer and matinee childrens performances on Wed. afternoons.(www.nlbarn.org) And if you just want to relax there is always The Garden Spa to pamper you. |

Longview Country Store
It is just outside of Meredith past the traffic circle as you are heading towards Weirs.
They have antiques, candy and lots of interesting items. Always an interesting place to browse around. |
Great shops we bring our visitors
Yikes Gallery in Center Harbor http://www.yikesgallery.com/ The Old Country Store and Museum Moultonborough http://www.nhcountrystore.com/ Blacks in Wolfboruough http://www.blacksgifts.com/ |
I like browsing in the "Casual Cape" on Whittier Hwy in Moultonborough for home decor.
The shop is interesting and is decorated accordingly for the seasons and major holidays. |
