Need Them on the Lake
Now if we could just get the MPs to be more agressive in stopping the loud boats on the lake we would be getting somewhere. I can't believe that those boats we hear from miles away could actually pass a reasonable noise test.

Motorcycle exhaust tickets, more details...
From today's Citizen, further details on the loud exhaust detail in the Laconia area and their plans to continue enforcement into the summer;

What lake do you live on?
Do you live in a cave or something? The MP stops boats every weekend for being to loud. I know of two or three boats that have been stopped the last couple of weeks.
|
As a quiet boater and sport motorcyclist, I really appreciate this. Loud bikes (of any brand) are annoying and give everyone a bad feeling about bikes in general.
Loud boats are, for the most part, just a source of amusement for me. They don't typically have an annoying raspy crackling sound like loud bikes, just a "hey look at me, I have a fast boat and am in dire need of attention!" kind of rumble. |

I am talking of having something done more along the lines of the bike 'checkpoint' strategoically located at more than one point on the lake. |
We moved from Cape Cod to the lake a couple years ago. None of the harbors along with Nantuket and Martha's Vinyard allow thru hull exhaust noise. Why Winni tolerates the noise is beyond me.
|
It's nice to hear that this problem is being addressed. I'd like to see that inspection be expanded to these booming car stereos as well.

Loud boats
I agree that some boats are far too loud. I was in Winter Harbor last weekend and heard the loudest boat I've ever heard. It had twin outboards and I could hear it still roaring for a long while after it went past. I called the MP and will call every time I see that boat!!
|
It must be paradise to live in such an idyllic place that all the police have to do is worry about noise complaints. Although a Harley with straight pipes (while you're walking on the sidewalk) can boarder on painful :(
Boats are generally too far away to get grey hair over  |
Boat Noise
I usually stay away from the threads on this topic, but c'mon Cal, I woke up last Sat. night to the roar of performance boat screaming by at 2:00 in the morning. This thing was LOUD. I'm often amazed at the variations in noise from the performance boats ranging from not much louder than any other boat to ear splitting -- even among the larger end of the spectrum. As the number of these type boats increases, enforcement of noise restrictions is important. Sound travels far faster and further over water. Once again, a vocal or is it obnoxiosly loud(???) minority dragging down the image of all performance boats.
|
Well, I do not always take the mainstream on most debates(??) but again, I must agree with Cal on this one. The "water" police or even regular police departments must have better things to do than filter through these complaints all day. As one poster stated "I'll call every time I see this boat" Well I say enough is enough. Maybe these people taking these calls are suffering from the "crying Wolf" syndrome.
Well, my .02 and I'm sure I'll be trampled over... :( |

M.I. Read what you just wrote...what does that tell you about that person at 2am :rolleye2: ???? Yeah , I thought you would feel that way....me too. Myself , I would feel much better hearing that than howling wind and ice pellets hitting my window. Then just smile , roll over and go back to sleep  PS. I usually stay at the NASWA so there aren't many HP boats screaming by at 2 am , but I do get my share of bikes on that road. I don't like it , just figure ya gotta take the good with the bad ;) |
Bike noise targeted for 2nd time
