Sailing Lessons in Meredith

Meredith, NH- The Meredith Bay Sailing Association is pleased to announce season of youth and adult sailing lessons on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. This year our staff includes Head Instructor Ian Gilchrist. Gilchrist is a US Sailing Certified Level 1 Instructor and Level 2 Coach and is a member of the Bates College Sailing Team. Along with teaching sailing this summer, Gilchrist races sailboats in the local fleet of J80s. Gilchrist will be joined by Tyler Markley who is also a US Sailing Certified Level 1 Instructor. Markley currently attends UNH and also actively races in the local J80 fleet.
Youth sailing lessons are offered Monday-Thursday 1-3pm in 2 week sessions. Three sessions are being offered; the first session starts July 6th, the second on July 20th, and the third on August 3rd. Students must be between 8 and 15 years old and are required to pass a simple swim test on the first day of class. Classes are taught to the 14 basic skills set out by US Sailing. For those students who pass the learn to sail program or have previously passed it, we have a community sailing program that runs from 3-5pm Monday-Thursday. This program allows students to spend more time in the boats practicing their skills and enjoying Lake Winnipesaukee. Both programs meet at Heskey Park in Meredith, NH.
Adult lessons are available upon request. They are available weekday mornings, all day Friday, and on the weekends. For adult lessons, a 22-foot keelboat is used, which provides a stable platform on which anyone can learn to sail.

Sailing really does get into the blood, doesn't it? :coolsm:

If you start with a small boat, the learning process is quick and simple:

1) Turn the rudder to steer into the wind. :look:

2) Pull the sail in until it fills—gently—to "bend the breeze" a little.

3) When things "go wrong"? Just let go of everything. :)

4) Oh yes, make sure the board is down. :o

Granted, as you "move up" in boat size, a whole lot of things can go really wrong!
