Falafel

If young me could get a gander of present day me, he'd say 2 things:

-How'd you get so fat, and
-What's the deal with falafel?

A gal I knew in college introduced me to it - basically ground chick peas made into patties and deep friend, rolled into a wrap and served with tomatoes, tahini, cukes, and other veggies. I'm pretty much meat 'n' potatoe, so this foreign-sounding food seemed - well - foreign.

But it's an acquired taste that I've acquired a taste for. (Full disclosure - I love Moxie, black licorice, feta cheese, and the musical stylings of Tom Waits) :)

Anywhere around here to get a falafel? They have good ones at the Friendly Toast in Portsmouth - and I fry 'em up at home. But I'd love to know if there's a place closer to home if I'm not in the mood to cook.

thx

I live in Dover and there's a place nearby in Somersworth. It's in a Citgo gas station of all places but worth a try if you're in the area. It's easy to get to, exit 9 Spaulding Tpk, in front of the Market Basket/TJ Maxx plaza on High St. I think the sign says Mediterranean Food.

Here's a link I found with a couple reviews.

gonna have to try it!

Crawford, I wonder if we were seperated at birth. Moxie, my Dad's favorite, is an old standby. Feta is the best. Black licorice has always been the one to get. And lets not forget Mr. Waits, my husband turned me onto him many, many years ago! I have never had falefal, but always thought I should try it, after reading reviews of different places that specialize in it. Will be on the lookout for some, thanks!

Every now and again, my yard sale additiction gets me down to the Tri-Cities. Guess y'all know where I can be found circa lunch time this Saturday.:banana::banana: (Thanks to the mods for including the dancing banananana smileys! )

And nagigator - if you are extremely good looking and erudite seemingly beyond compare, we may well be identical twins separated at birth. When I have a chance, I'll look into whether Tom Waits eats falafel and if he washes them down with a frosty moxie.

In the meantime, never let the weeds get higher than the garden - and always keep a diamond in your mind!

truth be told

From the sound of his voice, I think Tom Waits drinks whiskey mixed with gravel.........

Vancouver

Not sure if there are any places around the lake that serve falafel but last month I had the very best falafel ever. We were in Vancouver for a wedding and there must have been a sushi shop and falafel shop on every corner. I think I had a falafel for lunch and sushi for dinner almost every day while in that beautiful city lol.

Best Felafel

The best felafel is at one of the sidewalk cafes on Dizengof in Tel Aviv with a big glass of Maccabe beer. I have never had anything anywhere else that compares.

Fishy cover, try a Goldstar and swarma, I find it a better combo. Almost worth 12 hours on a plane.
