Marine from NH accused of murdering his wife

Jacksonville, N.C. – A Camp Lejeune Marine from New Hampshire is being held on $1 million bail, charged with murdering his wife.

Cpl. Cody Daniel Richardson, 22, a veteran of the Iraq war, was arraigned on first degree murder in the death of his wife, Jessy B. Lauer Richardson. The Wolfeboro, N.H., town clerk confirmed to UnionLeader.com this afternoon that both grew up in that town.

WNCT.com is reporting she was likely dead for at least one or two days before her body was found Monday after Richardson called 911 and admitted strangling her.

He was outside the couple's 1000 Talon Drive home at the Reserve Apartment Complex when police arrived Monday afternoon and arrested him. Mrs. Richardson's body was found inside their apartment.

Jacksonville police said the cause of her death is undetermined and an autopsy is scheduled.

Investigators believe Richardson killed her during a "domestic altercation."

A woman who answered the telephone at her family's home and identified herself as Mrs. Richardson's godmother said the family was doing OK but she declined any further comment.

Richardson is an anti-tank missile man assigned to the 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, according to WRAL.com. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 2006 and 21 months later was promoted to corporal.

In November 2007, he deployed to Iraq, returning the following May. He was awarded the Iraqi Campaign, National Defense Service and Global War on Terrorism Service medals.

The investigation into the murder is continuing.

We only knew this young woman in her capacity as a cashier at Hunter's IGA, but we instantly recognized her right away because she always had such a friendly smile for all the customers.

We also know the family of this young man, and can't say enough good things about them.

They are all in our prayers tonight.

I didn't know the young lady, God rest her soul. We know the Richardsons, though - as you say, they's good people.

Both families are in our prayers tonight.
